That is not nerdy, it's cool, I have one too, I am into square foot gardening, maybe that's nerdy?

Agree.

I have a massive back garden and am trying to start a vegie patch. I'll be able to feed a village if it takes off. Which is should given my garden is north facing.

Started making imaginary football teams over the Summer Holidays.

I basically give every team a 'Gold Coast' draft and then trade in a whole bunch of average footballers and then watch as said team vies for premiership glory.

I've got about 7 now :o

I got the idea after hearing Russell Brand talking about doing similar things.

I'm passed my nerd phase.

I used to play Civilization 3 endlessly. I tried to master every Civilization on the second hardest level (couldn't conquer the Sid level).

I always did extra maths homework just because "I liked how it felt to get the answers right".

I used to do a lot of sneaky programmer stuff, like constructing false landing pages of hotmail and letting people log in on my laptop, whilst capturing their passwords. That's both nerdy and prickish.

I enjoyed adventure games like Space Quest, Kings Quest, etc.

I could recite the 50 states and capitals of the USA, and new the population densities of the worlds 20 largest countries (aus was only 2 people per sq km at the time, despite being the 6th largest country in the world).

Chemistry was cool.

My saving grace in a social sense was that I was good at sport. It helped a lot being in the better cricket and footy teams. Otherwise I think I could have been on the social outskirts in a big way.

Then at roughly age 13/14 I discovered alcohol, drugs, women and music - swung waaaaay too far the other way. Now I've struck a more workaholic, but worldly approach to life.

I have a deep seated awe and love for anything to do with space.

This. I payed ~$150 for starry night space program, essentally the solar system and universe simulated on computer. I can tell you tomorrow night there will be a total lunar ecilpse at midnight. (I've already simulated it to see when its going to happen)

Play internet chess and follow the top chess tournaments (chessbase.com). I bought a chess program Rybka 4, that I can run during live games to analyse the best moves. The best player in the world at the moment is a young 21 year old norwegian and has been for about a year.

Enjoy other strategy board/card games like Catan, Dominion and Agricola.

i have a dedicated pc for my train simulator activities

connected to my 42" plasma, and one of these

Alright, lock the thread.

Geez, more nerd things I loved. Sierra was THE games company back in the day. Leisure Suit Larry. I remember playing the original version of that when it came out. :D

And Civ II was the best of them IMO. The right balance between challenging and too much to worry about. I still have it on CD and play once or twice a year.

Awesome. My wife and I love the board games. She's getting Settlers of Catan and Carcassonne for Christmas (have played and enjoy Carcassonne, haven't played Settlers yet).

Having boys 4 and 6 and my wife and I both nerds, having a great time setting them up as little nerds. Both love Doctor Who (have a remote control Dalek and toy Sonic screwdrivers) and the eldest is just starting on board games (loves Forbidden Island).

Pre-pubescent nerdiness doesn't count, I don't reckon. All kids are into weird things in one way or another. You got into the hedonism way too early. 13 and drinking? Nerd status revoked.

Yep good buy :) I have spent a lot of time after uni coming home and playing these games. It's quality time, especially when each hate losing :]

By the way, nerd is the new cool.

With the reliency of technology these days and with the rubbish dished out in TV and movies, there are so many better, more interesting and interactive ways to occupy your time.

I keep thinking of new ones, I have a mild obsession with anything to do with the Titanic, so much so that the exhibit at the museum last year was a bit of a let down because there wasn't much new info there for me (seeing real artifacts was cool though).

I also played Train Sims when younger but never had a console a la Mr Smooth.
