Netgear DG834GU Modem/Router

Anybody else use this?

Home net connection switched from Bigpond to Optus yesterday and was sent this Modem/Router (ADSL 2+) as part of the Optus Fusion package.

Usually use the net connection for about 4 laptop/systems (all wireless).

Can connect with the net OK via an Ethernet cable but can't connect to it through the wireless. The laptops detect the network but it doesn't let us in (despite having the network key). Tried adding them through their MAC addresses but refuses to save them.

ATM, have it linked up to another router (the one we used for Bigpond) and it works well. Isn't really a problem having it set up like this but just wondering if anybody else uses this router and have the same problem or is ours just ****ed?

I had a similar problem.

I found that resetting the router using the buttons on the side and then running the entire setup again through www.routerlogin.com made it work. My guess is there's confusion between your bigpond and optus settings somewhere between the computers and router.

or just use your bigpond router...afterall a router is a router, doesn't matter who sent it to you.

I guess I'll leave it as is.

The one Optus sent is supposed to be a router with an inbuilt modem though. Looking at Vendrell's thread, seems like a common problem.

Have you checked the logs on the Modem/Router?

Are the wireless security settings set in the Netgear consistent with what the computers will support? WEP, WPA, WPA2 etcc?
