What should we do?

The only 4 inner city options I like are

1) Park 2 (Aquatic centre)
2) Park 12 (University Oval)
3) Park 16 (Victoria Park)
4) Park 20 (Pulteney Grammar)

If you cant get any of those it shows how self-serving the Adelaide City Council is and trying to keep the vocal minority happy rather than doing something which would have next to know fallbacks, And even some positives especially in the case of Park 2.

And if you can't get any of them, you wont get inner-cty at all.

Need to look elsewhere.

Maybe something like the Kensington Gardens (a little further down the road past Kensington Oval) or the suggestions such as the Showgrounds.

I suspect there may be some pressure from the Feds to see their funding go towards a visible, central location.

They wouldn't be overly frothing at investing $15 million in a facility buried in suburbia that only die hard fans will be aware of.

SACA managed to get Karen Rolton redeveloped with Old Ignatius football club as co-tennants

No reason we couldn't do the same with Adelaide Uni. The same stumbling blocks are in the way for both and if they solved it we can

There's a second Adelaide Uni Oval a bit further along war memorial drive that would be good too. Has a gym across the road. Take that over. Offices can go there so don't need building on parklands. The grandstand is decrepit there so needs to be overhauled anyway

You would think that the small grandstand at Bob Neil No. 2 and especially the larger stand/clubrooms at Bob Neil No. 1 would be heritage listed.

They are also Uni cricket grounds in the summer. Are you going to rope of the cricket pitch area during Crows pre-season training?

Was there any public consultation for Karen Rolton Oval?

Maybe but the grandstand at Uni 1 got completely overhauled a couple of years ago which I doubt they'd have been able to do if heritage listed.

Uni 2 is barely used for anything. One lower grade game of cricket per week, no trainings. And as luck so happens, Uni acquired four brand new ovals near the airport just recently

They could keep the hard courts and the rest of the tennis set up. Take over the lawn tennis courts next to Adelaide Oval Number 2 and you could build a perfect little boutique football ground, the same dimensions as Adelaide Oval. Plenty of room for well designed facilities to cater for the Adelaide Football Club's two men's teams and Women's Football - AFLW Crows and the women's pathway leagues. Make it the home of Women's Football in this State, the home of the Crows SANFL team and the training ground for the Crows Men's team. Right next to Adelaide Oval.

I think there's 1 absolutely perfect site.

University Oval

In 2020 there were changes with community sport setup in that area of the parklands.
Park 12 gained a footy field at the expense of 2 soccer pitches
While Park 10 gained 2 soccer pitches at the expense of a footy field

You have that setup now of 2 footy field right next to each other.

Get in cahoots with University Football club.
Build the facilities basically on the corner of Frome-War Memorial

But you are right, the city is extremely conservative. Will stop just about everything.

Or could the club push for park 16 and sell it "By letting us build here it means our presence blocks the superloop 500 returning, so even though it is a permanent presence, it's a smaller disruption than the racetrack would be when building and dismantling the stands for half the year"

Park 16 won't happen, this area is currently being turned into a massive wetlands. Looks pretty amazing.

The Adelaide City Council have made it clear they won't deal with us. They will and have dealt with many many others, but not us.

The only way then to get one of those locations is to go above them. We should be talking with the State Government and seeing if we can set up a community styled development and ask the government to re-zone the area.

A swamp!

Exactly what Adelaide needs in the parklands.

Seems we've probably met the standard for having the SA government s**t all over the council on our behalf.

Building on top of the Aquatic Centre was the only chance of getting a HQ on the parklands. With that idea gone, it will not happen, no matter how many fanciful notions of blowing past the ACC are proposed, or how many times people yet again talk about building on University Oval, or Park 16.

Neither stripe of SA government is going to go to war with the ACC on this, because it's en election losing fight.

From a distance......what is the issue between the AFC and the ACC. If what you say is correct how and why did we piss them off. I would have thought that having the AFC located in the city limits would be an attractive concept. Or is this something to do with the Port/Crows relationship? If we have pissed them off why cant that be fixed and move forward after all the council members are elected and would change over the years.

I'm sure they'd be happy if we built something within the CBD, but the parklands are not for development by for-profit corporations, doesn't matter who they are. There are no "others" they have dealt with when it comes to the parklands, save for government, community sports organisations, statutory bodies, and educational and cultural institutions.

The only reason the Aquatic Centre idea ever had life is because the place is bleeding money for the council, they needed a way to get rid of it, and developing an already developed piece of land without imcreasing the footprint is the only way anything can happen - even the corrupt as all get out state Liberal sponsored Adelaide Oval hotel went to great pains to point out the hotel would exist within the already concreted footprint of the ground, and not take another millimetre of parklands.

ACC are just anti-change.

They forced Adelaide Oval to have retractable lights, then were against the latest redevelopment.

I'm sure if Olsen's preference is within Adelaide, he will look to the State Government to bypass the ACC.
