I'd like to see them appoint someone to one of these positions, who actually loves the sport of Aussie Rules. It’s a résumé on par with, if not weaker than, Goyder’s, and he’s been an appalling chairman. What the organisation really needs is someone with genuine breadth of experience: someone who’s lived in different cities across Australia, has strong media influence and contacts, and brings real insight from the sports and entertainment industries. It also needs to be someone with a more outspoken profile to balance out Dillon. Not another corporate suit trapped in the Melbourne bubble with little experience beyond the boardroom.
Peter V'Landy's does a hell of a job, because you know he loves that sport. Andrew Dillon has none of that. Goyder was similarly a vacuum of personality.
These bozos want to grow the game, but why would anyone want to tune in to watch the sport being spruiked by funeral directors?
