It’s a résumé on par with, if not weaker than, Goyder’s, and he’s been an appalling chairman. What the organisation really needs is someone with genuine breadth of experience: someone who’s lived in different cities across Australia, has strong media influence and contacts, and brings real insight from the sports and entertainment industries. It also needs to be someone with a more outspoken profile to balance out Dillon. Not another corporate suit trapped in the Melbourne bubble with little experience beyond the boardroom.
I'd like to see them appoint someone to one of these positions, who actually loves the sport of Aussie Rules.

Peter V'Landy's does a hell of a job, because you know he loves that sport. Andrew Dillon has none of that. Goyder was similarly a vacuum of personality.

These bozos want to grow the game, but why would anyone want to tune in to watch the sport being spruiked by funeral directors?

Clubs vote in March, if they have a spine they'll dump him. They aren't happy with this appointment
Not what I’m hearing. A safe choice. Why dump him? You’d prefer a lawyer who has sued the AFL many times, or Tom Brown’s father?

Just when you thought the useless and invisible reign of Richard Goyder couldn't get any more self serving, he's railroaded the selection process and inserted his own numptie (who is as corporate and unknown as himself publically) into the role of AFL chairman. Right at a time when the AFL is crying out for someone with a bit of profile, charisma and initiative to balance out Dillon being the world’s most boring man.

This puppet should hopefully get rolled by the clubs at the March AGM, let's hope they have the fortitude to follow through this time.

There’s very little chance the clubs don’t vote him in.

Another Geelong person to investigate Geelong in the future? Brilliant. What could go wrong?

They can move next door to Smith so they dont have to travel far every time they need to tell him to stop being so publicly a ****wit.

The AFL own 8 clubs. And the Presidents need a 2/3 majority to overrule anything. So the AFL will always do what the AFL wants.

My understanding is at the AGM only 3 clubs need to nominate an alternative, then it goes to a club vote who gets on the commission. A couple of months ago Browne had 14 clubs wanted him, Drummond had only 2 or 3. This is basically a Goyder selection because it allows Goyder to retain some power when he leaves. It's why the 6 club presidents got kicked out of the selection process late coz Goyder thought they weren't going to select his man. The clubs were furious at the time, will be interesting to see how angry they are by March next year.

The clubs wont care. Goyder will just have to offer more business deals to win them over. Because that is what most of them are really in the game for.
