Only heard the single. Took a while to understand while Michael Bubble and Michael Bolton had collaborated under the Audioslave title. Jesus christ they are disapointing. Sure fire cure for Insomnia.

Never has a human being been wasted like Chris Cornell in Audioslave.

Never.

Personally I thought Be Yourself was far better than most of the stuff on the first album. I think they are moving in the right direction.

I blame Morello.
Works for me. Punce he is.

Probably being harsh, but RATM were IMO the most powerful, emotive mainstreamish band going around for a while. Not a massive fan, but their debut album was stupendous. Add Cornell, the best vocalist of his era (sorry Mike) and I expected my ********en ears to be busted up.

Sad, sad stuff I reckon.

With their first album, that tool Tim K was actually bragging how they wrote everything in two days, and boy did it show. This one sounds better, but I still think Cornell would be better off solo.

RATM-RATM was a brilliant album, but anything of theirs after that is a massive waste of time. If I wanted a political opinion shoved down my throat in every single line of a song, I'd go listen to those irish ponces, U2.

Also, 8 months?! ;)

I don't think he should escape blame completely. Some of the lyrics I just heard were very mediocre. What happened to the bloke who wrote Limo Wreck and Like Suicide?

Morello still wouldn't know a good guitar solo if it bit him in the arse.

But that was my first listen, so I'm probably being way too hasty/harsh. Their first album has actually started to grow on me lately.

You obviously didn't catch his solo stuff. Pee-ooooow! It stunk.

I listened to the first Audioslave album for the first time in months the other day, and kinda enjoyed it. Don't think I'll bother with the follow-up, though, as I was disappointed by the first effort.

I'd prefer his solo stuff over Morello's same old posturing that is 15 years old.

If i am ever in your company again Brett, i will punch you fair and square in the face for that comment! You dill.

Cornell's solo album, Euphoria Morning, is one of the best albums of the 90's IMO. Musically and especially lyrically. And he sung as well as he ever has on it.

Have another listen ya big poof.

I'll decline to comment on Audioslave for now as i havent heard the album.

Are you on drugs?

If not, you obviously should be!

There were some beautiful songs on his solo album. A few "filler" tracks, but some great stuff on it as well.

No, I'm not on drugs. Chris sure was, though.

I gave it a few spins years ago, and maybe I was too hung up on comparing it to Soundgarden. I haven't listened to it for years, so maybe I'd appreciate it more now. All I remember is thinking it was trash.

Burn and send me a copy and I might reconsider and buy the proper thing. I Loved Soundgarden.

You really disappoint me champ. Really. For a young fella who usually seems to put a bit of thought into his music and how he discusses it, that is just baffling coming from you mate.

Mate you will find no greater Soundgarden fan on this planet than myself, and yes i remember being a bit suprised the first time i heard Euphoria Morning. I too was kinda hoping for a bit more balls and attitude ala Soundgarden.

But once i realised how narrowminded and foolish i was being and just accepted the album for what it was, i was able to realise that he was simply getting out all of the ideas and concepts that wouldn't have worked in the parametres of Soundgarden. For the most part, the song writing is all class. His vocal performance is astonishing and his lyrics were brilliant.

Not to mention having the very brilliant Josh Freese lay down all but one drum track. The other was by a performed a bloke named Matt Cameron.

F*ck you. Just buy it ya tight arse! You'll get it bloody cheap these days. I assure you, now you are a few year's older and have removed your head from your moist young juvenile bottom, 3 or 4 spins of this album is all you will require to realise what a ******** you're being. Oh, and remove any Soundgarden influenced pre-conceptions from your head before listening to it. It aint a Soundgarden album. Was never intended to be.

Oh, and say no to drugs.... well at least just the bad ones anyway.

It's not a bad listen thus far. Still need to listen too it a bit more.

Is it just me or is the riff from Your time has come, the same riff as Bad Seed from Metallica. :p

Chris was always on drugs, Carlos! I didn't mean it in the way that he was on drugs to make a solo album, I meant it literally. I think it was come down stage, or he had just got off them.

I don't earn enough to go and risk my money on albums I might not like or appreciate. I'll listen to some of it and make a call. I'm pretty calculated with my CD buying these days.

album is out tomorrow, is this a week early? I dont remember it being dated tomorrow. Reviews seem to be good, more complex and developed than the 1st album. This is supposed to be the bit where I say the first album was crap but maybe it just took me a year to get into it, it is not a bad album particularly when they slow things down and explore more mood-type of sounds. I dont know much about Cornell or Soundgarden (i was given Superunknown but have never listened to it) but from the 1st Audioslave album but really he has to have the best voice in rock & roll SURELY.

Had a listen at a music store on Friday night. A few tracks jumped out at me, but most sounded like a poor version of their first effort. Will need convincing to buy it.

Oh dude. Please please please put Superunknown in your cd player. You have in your possession one of the best albums rock albums ever made. Certainly one of the very best of the 90's. Its a masterpiece.

And Cornell's voice shines so much brighter on the Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog and solo stuff than on any of the Audioslave gear.

Agree with all of that, although (as much as I love TOTD - I need to pull that out again!) I still think Cornell's best moment is either Superunknown or - if you can get over the fact that it's possibly the worst sounding album ever made - Badmotorfinger.....but man, some of the vocal sounds Brendan O'Brien pulled on Superunknown are just amazing.....if you get the chance, have a listen to "My Wave" through a GOOD set of studio monitors.... sit up close right in the middle....and man, what a sound....so aggressive and in your face.... why has Brendan O'Brien turned to zhit lately? Actually, why has the entire art of music production turned to safe sterile radio-friendly comfortably familiar zhit lately? And yes, from what I've heard of them (and getting back to the topic), Audioslave are close to the worst offenders.

(actually - I just googled to see who produced the first Audioslave album, and noticed it was Rick Rubin.....who either gets it right in most cases, or gets it horribly wrong.....I couldn't find who mixed it though....generally Rubin is not one to play things safe though, so I found that interesting that he was behind it....am I being too harsh on Audioslave, basing what I'm saying on the small handful of tracks I've heard? It just seems all so safe and boring....but then, RATM were heading in that direction towards the end of their thing.....with a slightly daring adventure here and there...I guess we just expect more from Chris Cornell at the end of the day...)

Hitman - As for Cornell being on drugs, I always thought that Soundgarden were the "wise old men" of the Seattle scene? While Kurt and Layne and Andy Wood and co were off killing themselves, Soundgarden were going about their things without getting into that stuff, despite being surrounded by it..... although maybe I'm completely mistaken? I had a feeling they (and in particular Cornell) were only into that kinda thing early in their lives.....

Nope, Cornell was well into it. One of the major factors of their '97 breakup.

As for Badmotorfinger, are you canning it? Second-best album after Superunknown IMO, which, as that Celtic-supporting scumbag Northbhoy said, is one of the best albums of the 90s.
