Squiggle tips Saints at 51% chance -- What's your tip? -- Team line-ups »
He's our third highest scorer this series, above his brother, Khawaja, Paine and Smith. And you can't exactly dismiss his 96 as just "one fifty". It was a match-winning knock. Two games ago. Add that on top of 4 wickets at 24.75, I don't really think you're being fair here.No I'm not. 1 fifty from 6 SA innings averaging less than 29. He's not up to it when the ball moves.
We play in England next winter. He needs to be out of the side by then or 6 is a walking wicket.
So many have been sucked in by his ton on the WACA road.
England 2015 where it swung. Averaged 12.
NZ where it swung. Averaged 9
SA in Australia where they swung it. Averaged 13 (and dropped)
SA away where it has swung and seamed. Averaging 28.
Similar has applied to Warner, and I've been critical of him for quite a while for it. Khawaja is similar and I've been critical of it.
Marsh simply is not up to the rigours of test cricket anywhere other than our flat tracks. He's not the first and won't be the last.
Those series serve as mere supporting evidence. It's quite possible Anderson will still be playing in 15 months time seeking redemption before retiring. Broad in England is dangerous. Probably Finn as well. As far as I'm concerned his frailties against swing bowling is still evident and nothing has changed. They will absolutely go to town on it, don't know about you but even with what's happened this week I want to retain the Ashes next year. He's our third highest scorer this series, above his brother, Khawaja, Paine and Smith. As for those previous series, the guy wasn't ready then. Simple. He should never have been in the team at that point. I totally understand the hate boner you have for him after those series, but you can't judge a career on a stint in the national team when he clearly wasn't ready.
I think it’s wise to keep Shaun Marsh around. This will be tough for Paine in the interim, he needs a senior head as his right hand man.Paine looks pretty sure to be the stop gap captain.
M Marsh still has to cement his place in the side and it would be a huge burden. He's moving closer towards that but still a bit to go and as has been mentioned a potentially very tough examination in England next year.
I understand the whole thing with Carey potentially pushing for Paine's spot but Paine looks to be doing enough to hold onto the spot for the next 18 months pretty comfortably.
And in that time frame there is no reason the gap from Paine to Carey won't grow. Sam Whiteman has plateaued out for various reasons as well. Carey may do the same (hopefully won't).

Yeah for sure.
Given the likely suspensions to Smith and Warner it will leave S Marsh as our most secure batsmen in the top six, which is a bit a head ****.
Also Mitch Marsh would be more secure than Khawaja in the team at the moment meaning our two most secure players in the top six are the Marsh brothers.

Just compare a player averaging mid 20s to one averaging mid 40s?Mitch Marsh is struggling against swing?
Better put renowned technician Pete Handscomb in.
You can't play a bloke with 1 FC century as a pure batsman. You just can't.Bring Carey in to keep and let Paine be batsman only. Carey is a excellent team man and competitor in the mould of Gilly.
Yes...I am biased
I'd be happy to let Paine carry on for a couple of years and ease Carey into the side through the T20 and ODI sides, as well as giving him a good solid grounding in fc cricket. It made the Healy/Gilchrist and Gilchrist/Haddin changeover almost seamless and I suspect they had Paine in mind for a similar sort of role when he was injured. You can't play a bloke with 1 FC century as a pure batsman. If Careu gets back to his form in the first half of the season, sure. I'm not discounting the possibility of a Whiteman re-emergence though if Carey stays with his recent FC form.I'd be happy to let Paine carry on for a couple of years and ease Carey into the side through the T20 and ODI sides, as well as giving him a good solid grounding in fc cricket. Grossly inflated by hammering most of his career runs on freeways at home v Pakistan.Just compare a player averaging mid 20s to one averaging mid 40s?

Smith will be back as captain
Getting a feeling Smith will be back as captain soon and Warner not back as vice captain at all.
I won't be renewing my SACA membership if that's the the caseCA would definitely like to have Smith as the captain for the home summer.
