New Best Young Key Forwards (21 and under)

Whilst technically you are correct , the poster in question may be getting confused because jye suffered quite a bad kidney injury that basically limited him to 2 games all year(one of them being a final) in his first year

Technically correct is the best kind of correct though.

He still has had 3 preseasons which is still significant.

Darcy then daylight on potential.

Treacy is top ten in the Coleman and I think is one of the best field kicks as a forward full stop.

Not sure of his potential but he's improved every year so far. I love that he has more than a bit of mongrel in him.

Top 10 ... Lists 11.

Darcy has the most potential but don’t think he’ll end up as a pure forward, could be one of the best ruck/forwards of all time if he reaches his potential.

Cadman looks very clean, not sure if he’ll ever be a true number one key forward but will be a great player for a long time. Van Rooyen isn’t the most skilled but has the aggression and effort to impose himself. Amiss and Treacy should be a very good combo for a long time at Freo, think Amiss will be the better of them, just needs to put on some size to take the next step. Walter I’m not entirely convinced on yet, he’s the most developed physically but don’t think he has any attributes that set him apart from the rest so far, too early to tell.

Neale, Dear and Morris look promising from a small sample size.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Darcy is top 3 overall for 21 and under lists for most people.

Naicos would have to be first picked for any rational person, but Darcy & Reid in minor placings, maybe JHF 4th.
These 4 players have the most potential to be the #1 player in the competition. Could even argue that Daicos is close to being that already.

None of them are going to leave their current clubs (especially the father sons) but I'd like to see a "war chest" ready team offer $10M for 5-6 years. Reset the market for the top players and force their current clubs to pay $1.5M/year.

You can beat the opposition on the field, but it's just as important to attack with ruthless recruiting. Look where insipid trading has put North.

Love that Dear is in the conversation.

This time last year it was questionable he would even be drafted after missing so much footy and development dealing with his father’s passing.
Looks he’s going to be a serious player with his ability to follow up on the deck even when he’s not flying for marks.

He just jumps at everything… which is sometimes to his teammates detriment. 😂

Feel like Cadman is ranked on reputation rather than output.

Caminiti outperforms him in every statistical category for example and is the same age / games.

I am not sure Mitch Owens is a key forward, more a utility but if this is on potential as a player (rather than a goal kicker) he would be second on this list for mine.

Good call.

Mitch is definitely not a true KF.

He's the number 1 post stoppage contested ball winner in the league and was last year as well.

That's because of the uniqueness of the role he plays.

I am biased but Logan Morris is showing some very good potential, kicked at least a goal in each of his 5 games and looks a very high footy IQ player.

Not on form right now but where I see them ending up from my untrained eye.

Top 5 >

1- Jed Walter
2- Sam Darcy
3- Jye Amiss
4- Jacob Van Rooyen
5- Aaron Cadman
Morris is a jet. Very jealous

I agree Darcy will be special but I was replying to specifically the quotes that Darcy is “clearly “ no 1
How bout we wait more than 5 seconds before making such definitive statements based on the “vibe” and vic centric media

I don’t give AF what he’s averaging let’s see him kick 40+ goals over the course of this year in his 3rd year then ,if it’s clearly no contest.

Let’s remember too Darcy has the luxury of playing with JUH and naughton, amiss has a bloke (Treacy) who’s still basically a kid himself as his partner
Darcy is already streets ahead of Amiss. Contested marking in particular is on another level.

For me:
1. S.Darcy
2. D. Light*
3. A. Cadman
4. C. Dear
5. J. Amiss
6. J. Walter
7. J. Treacy
8. JVR
9. A. Caminiti
10. S. Neale
11. J. Williams

*Daylight

I really, really like Neale and Walter - but Darcy is the best of the lot by a mile

Nah. cadman been much better this year

In what way has he been much better this year? Is it the extra 0.2 of a goal per game?

Even if we do only look at averages for this year he still takes less marks, less disposals less contest marks and less marks inside 50. He's very clearly not been much better.

Cadman also plays in a better team with a better midfield feeding him. Playing as a forward for the Saints is a death sentence

Oh yeah so I’m assuming Darcy has kicked plenty more goals then?
And got heaps more contested marks?
Darcy is averaging 2.4 contested marks a game in 2024, while Amiss is averaging 0.6.

Darcy is averaging 2.0 goal a game, while Amiss is 1.6.

And Darcy has only played 18 games v Amiss 36. So what point is ‘total goals’?

I’d be confident every club would choose Darcy over Amiss. No brainer.

Why is it only this year is relevant? And in what way has he been much better this year? Is it the extra 0.2 of a goal per game?

Even if we do only look at averages for this year he still takes less marks, less disposals less contest marks and less marks inside 50. So he's not much better!

Plus he plays in a better team with a better midfield feeding him. Playing as a forward for the saints is a death sentence.

I think Cadman is overrated or Caminiti underrated
Because they are new recruits and you want to see improvement yeah on year.
Also, some kids played much less footy in their 1st year than others whether it be because of injury, team strength or just not being ready.

Darcy again for mine.

Darcy's dexterity for a 208cm guy is something else. Once he fills out a touch more and can clunk them at their highest point consistently, there isn't a defender in the league who won't struggle in that match up.

Geez the Dogs have lucked out with some F/S and NGA pot luck to get some elite kids in for discounts.
At least this will take the heat off Collingwood and Geelong.
Be careful though, or the Vicbias brigade will come looking.

Well if this year is the only relevant year they're still basically performing the same.

Cadman 0.2 of a goal more but Caminiti winning all the other measures.

So I stand by the fact he's over-rated.
