Buckley/Clarkson/Scott wont want to touch the gig the way Teague has been treated

Lyon's on his last year of being paid by Fremantle so of course he would be sniffing

Hawthorn have to pay Clarko his full years deal, but can do it over 2 years of soft cap. The speculation is that's 900k over 2 years, ie. 450k a year.

The Herald Sun have reported Teague is getting a 6 month pay out at around the 200k mark. If he was to get an assistant job that would likely cover a fair bit of that, assuming the offset rules apply equally for assistant jobs. If it can't be offset, it might be able to be spread over 2 years, but I'd imagine for that amount you just wear it in the first year.

I don't think it would classify as enough to significantly impact a new coach.
Cheers mate. Seems a 6 month $200k payout lets the Blues off the financial hook pretty easily.

What's Paul Roos doing these days?
Is he out of the question again???

On 5008T using BigFooty.com mobile app
Working 3 days a week without any of the pre-planning at North and being paid very well for it. Doubt he changes his 24 hour a week job back to the 84 a week for over double the money hes currently getting

Carlton have gone through a heap of coaches recently, and I imagine for any coach taking that job on there is going to be a degree of hesitation. Thats why I think it makes most sense for it to be a Senior Coach with experience, because they are probably better at working the political quagmire that is the Carlton board as well as their reputation isn't as much at stake.

Ross Lyon would not have put up with the s**t that Teague did.

You can't do s**t in 2 years.

When Carlton appoint a coach, you better start being more realistic and give a man at least 3 or more to actually do something.

You need to accept the fact that you're not gonna be that good for a while and hope you somehow get ahead of schedule. It's better to over-deliver than to under-deliver.

This "can you smell what they're cooking" s**t needs to stop. You are a rabble, you haven't done anything in 26 years, you've won more spoons than finals. It's time to wake up, stop smelling your own roses, bite the pillow and aim for long-term success with short-term pain. The time for using your big club status to absolve you of your disfigurement is over.

Carlton still hasn't escaped out of this old-world mentality and that's their issue.

Hmmn.. looks like the pro Lyon faction has won out on the Board.

Expect the minimum requirement will be to get JSOS to 100.

Lyon who is canny will put a dose through the list. He will want players committed to playing a role for the team. SOS recruited far too many unprepared to play a role.

True. But we can all hope they don't stop.

They have been so ordinary for such a long time they are desperate for any success, not realising that pushing for a quick fix is just prolonging the mediocrity. Its like a vicious cycle.

Will be interesting to see what kind of game plan Lyon will implement ( If he gets the job ) . The Carlton officials are after instant success and history shows it takes teams a fair while to respond to his style.

Does it though?

At his second seasons at both St Kilda and Freo he led them to finishes of 4th and 3rd respectively.
That's extremely good and quick results.

They will give it to Lyon. They've had the two legends in Pagan and Malthouse, then two first-timers with a former club legend in between. Lyon doesn't have a game plan so he should fit in perfectly at the Blues.

Nah.

Our club was a rabble when it ran a shoddy supplements program.

It has since been a well run organisation that is yet to see any meaningful results on field.

It did admittedly fudge its coaching handover, but it has qualified for finals in 5 of the last nine year. Middling? Yes indisputably - no one is claiming they're world beaters. But a rabble? Nah.

Carlton on the other hand has not qualified for finals on its own merits for ten years. Literally ten years. In seven of those ten years, they've been in the bottom third.

In the past twenty years, they've won more wooden spoons than ANY OTHER TWO CLUBS COMBINED. Think about that for a second - the next two 'winningest' clubs when it comes to wooden spoons, if you COMBINE them will still have LESS spoons in the last twenty years than Carlton.

  • Can't qualify for finals
  • Wins wooden spoons frequently
  • Recruits a key forward on 800k who has never shown he can be a key forward
  • Recruits a midfielder on 800-900k who has never shown he can be a midfielder
  • Hands a 900k a year contract to a captain who is a shell of himself (because you were terrified how you'd 'look' if you lost him)
  • Turned a highly touted pick 5 in to a player who isn't best 22 (despite him being 23 years old)
  • Set the worst season record by a non expansion side since Fitzroy
  • The only club to have sacked its last three coaches before they coached 100 games (you might MAYBE be joined here by Gold Coast)

Now THAT is a rabble.

Vossy is doing a sound job, thank you sir.

A years a long time in footy.........

You got kissed on the dick by the fixture. Relax. Beat a top 7 team first.

You played one and we know how that turned out.

And my point still stands. You're not winning the flag this year and Voss needs time to achieve that goal. Don't come at his throat later when you're given a fixture that doesn't flatter you.
