Fitzroy side of the family.
All looks good, but are there enough cafes and eateries nearby?...this is what killed the StKilda Seaford experiment - literally
Now this sounds a bit crazy, but WRB is right on the money. The Saints Seaford setup has been a stuff up from most perspectives. It was mooted/funded because the facilities could also be shared by local footy comps, which does happen. But Seaford is 50-60 minutes from the CBD if you're lucky, and 30 minutes from 'heartland' southern suburbs via the Freeway. And when you get there, there ain't nothing else appealing.

So players are driving out to never never land to train, they can't just drop into the local for a coffee or lunch betweens sessions, and can't wait to get out of there at the end of the day. They wouldn't just "drop" into the club for an extra session during the summer break per example. And zero fans go there because its out of the way and there is nothing else appealing about going there.

It hasn't worked, and they will be returning to the Moorabbin heartland. They left there due to council kerfuffles and funding issues, and went to a council wanting them desperately. But the backwash has been that Moorabbin now realises they should have never let them go, and the Saints realise they never should have gone to Seaford.

This is what the proposed greyhound admin site looked like...

:eek::eek::eek:
the dogs got screwed by the govt. they gave up their share in Albion Park with agreement for the govt to build them a new track at Logan. Their share of Albion Park was worth millions. Now the govt are screwing hem anyway they can to avoid giving them the money. the council had agreed to build the track but some locals cracked it and protested.

Slacks Creek is 20 minutes from the city. It's closer to Brisbane CBD than Moorabin is to Melbourne, let alone Seaford.

Oh boo hoo. Tell it to the kittens who got torn to pieces in agony. Or the dozens of dead, discarded dogs left to rot in the forest.

**** the whole industry. If we can profit from their comeuppance even better.

The key is are there enough places the players can go to between sessions that are out of the way - it's either homes of players or cafes. Anything more than 10 minutes will kill it

Already been mentioned:

There's plenty all along the highway, everywhere between the Lions' social club and the Logan Hyperdome.

For comparison, it's probably an extra 5 minutes (without traffic) down the freeway from what QEII would have been - so not that bad at all.
Yeah good point.

TBH, this whole thing has taken so long, if Springfield was back on the table I would probably find that all of my previous misgivings about that had dissipated, but this is a better option.

If there is space and money on the table for it lets do it.

You're right, but I guess that's part of the attraction for Logan City Council to offer us the money. If you have a couple of these sporting precincts in the area, it creates a market for those sorts of cafes or places where the players would like to hang out. Being optimistic, one of the players might see it as a reasonable investment opportunity to set something like that up.

Land AND Money! I must have misread and thought the land was valued at $12mil. This is more and more looking to be a bit of a no brainer. It might not be the best option but it could highly likely look like the best option. In regards to going offsite for lunch and for coffees being a problem for the players give me a 'real world' problem for them to deal with.

Well dlanod says there is so I guess it's a done deal - it was a huge issue at Seaford - probably the main one that killed it off - it was just too far from everything
I know nil of Logan; but Seaford is much a pass through to either go to Frankston (not known for it's cafe culture :p) or to get back to the city via the Nepean Hwy (passing Moorabbin on the way).

Looking at the map though; there does seem to be a lot more around than the Saints had at Seaford :thumbsu:

Honestly, there are a few places to go ... but that part of town is absolutely not known for its coffee and dining.

In 10/15 years there may be more due to the development.

agree. i live in the beaudesert area, but have a brother who lives off oxford st at bulimba. we go over there quite regularly. walk down to oxford st or hop the ferry to new farm. logan certainly no oxford st or new farm when it comes to dining/cafes etc.

the players could pop into the local bunnings (2/3 minute walk from the proposed site) and have a sanger on bread and a coke. then go inside for all their DIY needs.:)

I don't really see our current group as the needy, everything needs to be perfect for me me me types. Surely 10 - 20mins to get back to their favourite cafe / restaurant after work isn't too much of an inconvenience for a bunch of twentysomethings.

I'd be really disappointed if it was.

But, if there was ever an omen for this new place being our home; Rocky's Bakehouse & Cafe is 1km away :D
