Canvassing. Please tell me that's another Tent joke....

I'm reasonably sure we should put our 'indoor' ruck training facilities on the western side of the Gabba grass, so we could refer to it as the "Tent West Ruckman Acadamy".
OK, it was a ten[t]uous link.

The time lost, ludacris nature of this arrangement is one thing - but can you imagine feeling like a backward down trodden hick, undertaking this routine while the rest of the AFL are in the lap of luxury. Can you imagine, when Redden heard what the average week for a West Coast Eagles player entailed.. in comparison to his average week at the Lions, the lure the WC would have had.

I am with others here, training and admin base is our number 1 priority.
TBD did say there was good news coming on this front. he didn't mention anything about a horses mouth though.

Only early but not seen any noticeable improvement in Redden's game - in fact, the majority of his stats numbers are actually below what he was producing up in Brisbane.

100% with you on the #1 priority though! :thumbsu:

FWIW, West Coast's current facilities are about on par with ours.

W-hoooo The tin shed is getting an annex (possibly)!

Federal election 2016: ALP pledges $1.2m for Brisbane Aussie Rules club

An Australian Rules club in Brisbane will get $1.2 million from a federal Labor government to upgrade its facilities.

Opposition Leader Bill Shorten travelled to the south Brisbane seat of Griffith on Tuesday to pledge the funding for Coorparoo Football Club, crediting the hard work of local Labor MP Terri Butler.

"The opportunity to play team sport, for both men and women, is transformative for our young people," Mr Shorten told reporters, noting there were 436 junior players at the club.

--------
Providing $1.2M worth of footballs, new light bulbs, solar panels and covering QAFL affiliation fees would transform a lot of little people's lives. Not sure an annex on a tin shed actually achieves that.

(Sort of) tin foil hat theory: $1.2mil opens the door for the Roos to build a third oval for U6-U11s on the vacant land next to CSC, opening the door for the Lions to reconsider Coorparoo as a permanent base. Second oval could be widened and upgraded to senior community footy standard, the Lions project would be more likely to receive funding from council and governments as it would be injecting money into community footy and not just the Brisbane Lions, Brisbane could also run their women's team operations there. Facilities could be built on the top of the current Coorparoo facilities or the land along the eastern wing could be leveled to make room for a separate training base. Staff and players would be happy because they would have a similar commute, rather than the Airport.

You probably know this but, the "second oval" actually is on a parcel of land owned by the State Govt/ Education Dept. I'm not sure under what arrangement that oval is used now, but I imagine there would be some hoops to jump through re; access to the oval for Coorparoo SC students. While there may technically be enough room for another junior oval across the drain (I assume this is where you mean) like the second oval at Wilston Grange, I would think this would cost way more than $1.2M.

Rather than a tinfoil hat, I think you might have a CFC beanie on! :D I'm not saying it's not feasible, but we're talking about an economic environment where pollies' sphincters pucker up when being asked for funding. Plus we all remember what election pledges amount to.

Surely a deal at the Brisbane Airport will be announced within a month of the election being completed

As long as we have it sorted prior to the season ending; I'd hate for us to go into trade week with the players not seeing some light at the end of the tunnel in terms of an improved training base :thumbsu:

Video games are a team aren't they?
As it is my son's old club and I spent a year as their web guy while hiding from committee meetings (ugh) I am chuffed for CFC. Will go a long way towards improving life for the Club if it goes towards the things Gadzorks mentions in his post; bulbs, solar panels, ground improvements etc.

Doesn't Cooparoo have flooding issues? Not the certain place you want to spend tens of millions on infrastructure.
Yep. Went under in 1893 (first image) and in 74 (second image) but not in 2011 (third image). I doubt it would flood today with Wivenhoe in place, but is still a risk to a degree.

And it's reclaimed waste/landfill and very space limited. It's close to the Gabba but poked away in an unimpressive location. It ain't happening.

It's will be Brisbane Airport. Just need to overcome some final funding hurdles. Fans will be happy with the outcome.

How does it compare to other clubs facilities from the outside looking in? I understand something is better than nothing but is it at least a decent proposal that has been drawn up?

I know you can't delve into it too deeply and I understand. If you think it's a great development TBD then it must be top notch. At least the Lions can finally get some decent facilities and there is plenty of room out there for upgrading in the future.
Obviously we can't compete with the Collingwoods of the comp but we aren't settling for 15th best facilities in the comp either. Look at North and the Bulldogs. Reckon we will match up pretty well with them.
