Just because the games that are played in Tassie aren't on free to air, doesn't mean that the logo wont be seen every single time we play a game in Melbourne by the crowd, Fox Sports when its not on Free to Air, and all the other free to air games we play such as Friday night footy.

Your grasping at straws.

Sponsors require national exposure to get maximum benefit - you only get that from FTA television - relative to other clubs we are waydown on FTA exposure & so as a result our attractiveness to sponsors & potential sponsors drops.

Why exactly would I be grasping at straws. I'm not defending the club, I don't have to as they would of course preferred to have more FTA games but the AFL is blatantly biased to Collingwood and Essendon, especially in terms of Friday night football.

The club doesn't have power in choosing which games are televised. Tassie as a brand will be signifantly recognised already considering all the attention and media coverage that it has already received. This sponsorship deal is being talked up more than most already so that's to be considered already.

Of course its better to get more FTA games, but its not the end of the world for Tas Tourism which the opposition leader is trying to make some believe.

It really isn't a big deal, and the games are still replayed later that night at 10:30 Ian Robson said so its not worth getting into.

Are you serious! How are young Hawthorn supporters going to follow their team at this hour!! Family Club? You have to be kidding me!

With your income at Humes, surely you can afford Foxtel?
Err ok you have lost me. FYI I don't subscribe to Foxtel and I don't have kids so going to the pub is more appealing for me (when I don't have the choice). It is is no way appealing for families in most cases.

Do you think Hawthorn want the games not to be shown on free to air. We need to start winning games and becoming a blockbuster finals type club before we can expect to be on free to air. Do you think I want to fork out money for foxtel to be able to watch the hawks this winter? Of course not, but I'll do it anyway cause I can not handle not being able to see them.

We can't expect to be on as much as other clubs, so of our performances last year (Melbourne, St Kilda, Sydney etc) where terrible showings and we can't afford to get flogged like that and play in that style and expect a decent amount of free to air showings. I think we'll improve and demand more soon, but I understand why were are being shunted, but am of course not happy that its happening.

Oh convienient once again gary.

..... it suggests to me is you are GUTLESS and not prepared to back up your views in a debate.
Mind your language, MHDKA.

Very courageous of you to sit down at a keyboard and be offensive.

As I said my time in this place is limited and I prefer to generally barrack for my football team rather than being involved in a hate-fest. I have stated that the 'sponsorship alternatives' answers lie therein, no need for longwinded 'debate', in my opinion, simple as that. End of story as far as I am concerned. No long-windiness from me. It is regretful that a poster of the likes of you turned that thread into spite rather than adhere to the specifics of the question.

I also said that I will no longer be partaking in the Tasmanian sponsorship discussion as I would rather spend my time discussing the team's fortunes. I cant be bothered reading, what I see as repetitious boring posts, simple as that.

Funny gary I didn't know that GUTLESS was a swearword!

Obviously this is a forum that has different rules for those that agree with moderators.

In fact GUTLESS seems an appropriate word for your actions - if you didn't know it means :

lacking courage, fortitude, or determination.

I actually made the post you question because I think your previous post was so ironic - you open up a thread asking for alternatives & then you constantly refuse to do posters the courtesy of responding to their posts which have been made in response to yours.

This post is simply another example; an internet forum is a place for discussion & debate - I have done that with far more analysis than seems to be the norm on this site in response to your posts - & your standard response seems to be:

I don't agree with your opinion - you are wrong - no more posts.
Well I think that is GUTLESS (means lacking courage, fortitude, or determination).

If you are going to raise an issue in a thread be prepared to debate it - I am always prepare to discuss anything I post - I don't run away.

(& PS: gary, if I hadn't used the word GUTLESS you probably still wouldn't have responded!)

Frankly I think yours and many other posters posts on this issue can really only be considered self-serving - you try to take the moral high ground when in fact the detrimental issues surrounding this sponsorship deal don't affect you because you are located outside victoria!

THE fact is I have foxtel but I can still see this deal does no favours for the average Hawk supporter.

And because you don't live in victoria so you cannot identify with average victorian based hawthorn supporters?

But you have Foxtel and can relate with people who don't? So you can talk for people who aren't in your situation, but we can't?

Do actually believe what you type MHDKA
Perhaps it is because I am victorian based, or know a lot of supporters and have been following the club for a number of decades - or maybe because I am smart (only joking;) )

But I have seen a number of posts which basically say " I have foxtel so stuff you" & "if you can't afford it that is your problem" or " we hardley get any FTA games in NSW so what is your problem".

As far as my posts go I am more than happy with the what I have posted on these issues - & I am happy debating any of them with any poster if they have an issue - thats what a forum is all about.

The thing I really find bizarre is a number of posters I think are posting out of some misguided loyalty to the club by defending some of the things which simply cannot be rationally defended & in the long term are not good for the club.

And they then take the view if you are not prepared to do this and take an opposing stance you are somehow being disloyal.

Its a public airing of an argument which would go on in private in a normal sponsoring company.

'OK golightly you suggested we sponsor the hawks, hows the exposure been this yera and wht is the trend"
"Well its terible but that nice Mr Kennet assusres me he is complaining like mad at the AFL scheduling. He tells me when someone at the AFL actually returns his call, he will kick som a$$"

"Fine , review this if it doesn't improve next year"

Gary, I see where you are coming from and being a passionate supporter of the Hawks is one thing I can connect with.

Deep down you must understand that following a football club is attending games and watching the games that you cannot attend on television.

The the 2007 season on both fronts have been jeopardised for Hawthorn supporters.

We simply cant have 7 of our 9 interstate games off FTA coverage. How do our young supporters follow our team - can they take up a Foxtel subscription? They are more likely to follow another Victorian club and forget about the Hawks.

Something needs to be done about it. The club needs to take a stand. The back page of Monday or Tuesday morning's paper should have Jeff Kennett slamming the AFL with its fixturing and FTA constraints that were negotiated with the TV networks. I await the club's response.
