Are any teams besides Fremantle debuting new jumpers in the Ansett Cup or home and away season ?
Has anyone seen Freo's new away jumper yet ? (Personally I liked the green one they used to have.)
Do Adelaide still wear that jumper with the big flying crow in profile on the front ?
Cheers,

I went looking for the Freo and Pies Jumpers because I want to see one beat the Hawks Jockey Diamond one from 1995.

Collingwood (barcode) and Freo cartoon (w)anchor from last year came close, so I'm hopeful on these two

Actually the collingwood one sounds good. if it is predominantly black and is worn with black shorts, it would be highly sensible for the Roos to wear the predominantly white one every time they play

Are they trying to look like port adelaide, or what ?

They should wear the 'white' back when playing:

Adelaide, Carlton, Essendon, Melbourne, Richmond, Port, St Kilda.

Should wear 'black' back when playing:

Hawthorn, North

against the rest it doesn't matter.

Like the eagles new 'home' jumper. they should play the alternate one when playing Cartlon, Hawthorn, Richmond.

They should avoid the away one when playing Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney, Saints, Melbourne

The adidas emblem is too obtrusive as usual, but not as bad as the Nike Swoosh on the North jumpers.

The Ansett Cup jumper is just shocking. That hardly looks like a Magpie, especially from a distance. Why couldn't they use the emblem from their old training jumpers?

The new collingwood jumper is fantastic the home and away strip is modeled on the jumper from the 20's and 30's,well done collingwood to keep in touch with our great past like this is just awesome.Good to see a club not wanting to depart from its past and tradition
why should we we have nothing to be ashamed of,the new old jumper gets my vote well done maggies.

I'm sick of these meaningless jumper changes. When is a club going to change their jumper with the intention of avoiding a clash with another team??

The Collingwood jumper is exactly the same as the original, except the colours have been reversed. Big deal! What's the point?

All it means, is that when the Pies play Essendon and Carlton, all three clubs will have a dark back with a white number making it even harder to distinguish. When Collingwood play Carlton or Essendon, they should ALWAYS wear white shorts, with the white back and black number. Essendon and Carlton should wear their Navy blue and black shorts. This way, there is a "dark" team and a "light" team.

Jumper changes should only be made with the intention of avoiding a clash with an opponent......not as a money making exercise. If a change was made to differentiate from the opposition, then there would still be a brand new jumper for the public to buy, so it would kill two birds with one stone.

Thanks for your kind words. I mean, what's the point of you even writing that post. What a waste of time. You just embarass yourself, in my opinion.

Let the new clubs change their jumpers. (Port and WCE especially. WCE should have kept the yellow/lighter blue ones for matches against teams with dark jumpers.)

It's too bad clubs don't take submissions from supporters for jumper designs. I submitted a mainly black design for Collingwood, but the club signed the deal with adidas within a couple of months.

The most encouraging response I got was from Brisbane for which I sent them a few designs (one with the players' names on the back above the number) but of course none of those were ever adopted either.

Sorry, Joffa. But for once I agree with Showbags. The new jumper is going to cause BIG problems against other clubs with predominantly dark jumpers and white numbers, like Carlton and Essendon.

The new jumper is very powerful to look at, especially with black shorts. But there was nothing wrong with old white-backed jumper. They should have kept the white-backed jumper to be worn with white shorts against clubs like Carlton, Essendon, Melbourne etc.

Another stupid, market-driven decision by the football industry.

It is Ironic when new jumpers make colour clashes worse.

Make all clubs have a lighter version to use when they play other clubs with prdominantly balck, oe blue ,or red strips.

So, Dan24, what would Essendon wear if they had to avoid a clash with one of the other 'dark' teams ?

The other teams can change their jumpers to avoid clashes with the Collingwood jumper as far as I'm concerned. Also Dan24, some info for ya...These design in Collingwood jumpers was used orginally by the club but was changed for some reason. Also the one with the black back will be used for Ansett Cup only I think.

Has anyone ever polled the players asking if they're confused by similar jumpers ?
I once played for a team wearing white jumpers with a blue yoke and blue numbers against a team wearing white/blue stripes and blue numbers (basically North Melbourne colours) and never had a problem. Those were about as similar as two jumpers could be. Of course this was an amateur comp and we were playing at nowhere near the pace of an AFL game !

Simple. A predominately red guernsey whe we are the away side against, say, Melbourne. We could reverse the colours, with perhaps no sash on the back, and just black numbers on a red background. A black sash on the front. The sash could even be a bit thinner to make the front less black and more red. Easy.

The AFL should regulate this, and FORCE clubs to change. Why don't they make a rule? Then clubs will have no choice.

I don't think that would help. Red is a very dark colour, too.

Nearly all the teams in the AFL wear black, blue, or red, and since all white is out of the question (umpires) the solution is to employ colours which aren't in a club's primary colour scheme like they do in many soccer leagues.

A good choice for Essendon might be grey/silver with the trim in black and red, because the new Essendon emblem actually uses silver.

If Melbourne changed their jumper for the Ansett Cup or the main comp, I would consider not watching.

Just checked out the collingwood site, The jumper with the stylised Magpie thingy looks remarkably like the Uniform Port Adelaide use to wear when they were in the SANFL up to 1996.

The Port Adelaide Magpies Football club wear the same uniform now as well.

Well obviously these new jumpers weren't designed to avoid colour clashing, just the AFL clubs looking at how much Man United and other English clubs rake in from changing their strips every year or so. But fashionable these things ain't. I wouldn't be caught dead in one.

As an aside, I remember an AC Milan official a couple of years ago blame Man United's dominance on Italians have too much good taste to wear their teams shirt around (!!), as the money Man U get from flogging off shirts is apparently staggering.

Maybe they changed it to avoid colour clashes.
