No you are missing the point.

Carlton do not want to wear a clash jumper. They do it because the AFL 'force' them to.
I think that argument would hold a bit more water if Carlton didn't sell their clash guernsey on their website. At least Essendon doesn't sell replica versions of its fat sash (I suppose no-one would buy it, so it's probably a moot point).

Now I don't recall there being any clash between Collingwood and Carlton until your team decided you wanted to wear mainly black instead of mainly white.

So on that basis, if your team created a clash by changing your main color, then if Carlton wish to wear their traditional guernsey instead of their pale blue monstrosity, they should be allowed to do so.

You've played each other over 200 times, and i'd say you've worn your 'clash' colors in 99% of them. What's the problem with keeping it that way?
Once the AFL approved Collingwood's black guernsey as an acceptable home strip, it automatically commanded as much respect as Essendon's home guernsey, or Carlton's, or Geelong's, or Richmond's, or anyone's. Of course it makes practical sense for there to be one more light coloured team and one less dark coloured team in the league, but as soon as the AFL signed off on it, that became their home guernsey and any opposition team who also wears a primarily black/navy/purple guernsey is obliged to wear a clash jumper when they are playing away.

There have been situations in the A League this year where the Victory have used their fluro yellow clash strip when they didn't need to (and actually created a clash in the process), simply because they have an agreement with adidas to wear it in x amount of games.
It's due to the sponsor being different on the away/clash kit that we are forced to wear it for half the season. Adecco sponsor the home kit, EnergyWatch sponsor the away kit. Problem is when we play away at Wellington/Gold Coast we have to wear our home kit to avoid a clash meaning those lost away kit games need to be made up at home.

On sponsors changing their logos on jumpers so they are now sticking out more than they did previously, Citi logo on the back of the Sydney home jumper, can't speak for the clash as havent seen it yet, now looks like this:

- but more rectangle in shape

I'm not defending Carlton as such. I mean, they couldn't keep the white clash could they? They had to change it to the light blue reminder of the first time a club sold its colors to outside interests for a few bucks.

My point remains. You create a clash, then it should be up to you to fix it yourself.

And just for the record, I don't think it does command as much respect. For a team that has done a mountain of bleating about the integrity of the jumper, they certainly didn't mind changing it when it suited them to do so. It wasn't based on anything practical either, it's created more problems that it's solved.

I'm fairly sure I read somewhere that the reason why Carlton got rid of their white clash was because a lot of their fans hated it and wanted it gone.

Whoever is the away team is responsible for fixing the clash IMO.
