Never understood watermarks on guernseys.
Yeah, I guess they made a bit of sense 15 years ago when printed guernseys were new and exciting and people were testing the limits a bit, but it goes totally against the sleek and simple aesthetic you'd expect for a 2015 guernsey.

I think they work when they are faint, like the puma ones have been over the years, these ones stand out way too much. It's a nice touch if they are only on the player issues, gives them some subtle difference to the retail versions. Do BLK retails have them, or just the P.I.'s??

I doubt it'd happen but the AFL really need to take a harder line with both Essendon and Richmond in regard to their away/clash jumpers.

The sliver of Essendon looks marginally different with all the black trim and Richmond's blocks of yellow just make it look messy.

If both teams simply inverted their current jumpers and whacked on white shorts the problem would be largerly solved. There are country football leagues where one team will where Richmonds homes jersey and another with the colours reversed and there is no clash at all. Same with Essendon's colours.

This way neither team has to go down a white path.

Actually pretty neutral

I think the silver is doing its job quite nicely to be perfectly honest.

Richmond's on the other hand, yes, it is not good enough. It's not "light" when the main kit is "dark", it's "a bit lighter, mostly in areas where they player's arms will cover it anyway".
But Essendon's is fine.

why do essendon keep releasing the silver one as a heritage jumper? do they not want to put out an ''official'' clash and this is seen as a ''loophole'' or something?

Gill has done more than Vlad did in a decade. Lets see if he has any real balls and Richmond get a new clash for 2015
Gill has done a lot of easy things. Vlad introduced 2 new teams and also got the league a $1b media deal.

Allowing people to kick the footy on the ground isn't a big win. It's nice but I'd rather them fix the price of food and booze, or come up with some ideas on how to make the game day experience better.

This still annoys me a bit. We have the best game in the world to watch, why are people so hung up on bloody pre, mid & post game entertainment? You go the footy to watch the game, not to watch some hack sing their latest "hit" or some circus performer doing bloody flips on a trampoline! It's not needed.

It's about an entire experience. I love our game, the pre, post and mid game entertainment I don't go for, but you need to address them otherwise the sport will get left behind.
The cost of football is becoming very expensive for all who attend, and if there isn't any work done in this area, eventually crowds will suffer. Nearly all sports have suffered this in recent years, as the cost and experience of watching it at home is drastically improving vs. game day.
It's not about watching a B grade singer or trampolines, that does do bugger all.
I'm talking about more experiential ideas that have people who attend feel a larger part of the day/game.
Listen to anyone across the sporting business world and this is the area they are talking about.

I have a feeling this is more of a thinly-veiled swipe than a question.
i'm just asking a question. none of it was a swipe, i don't know which part you could say was. we know the essendon fans don't like the idea of a clash jumper too much, so perhaps the club thought marketing them as heritage jumpers was smarter? that's what i was thinking. that silver jumper is great and without the names all over it would just be a clash jumper they should be proud of. they've had 'heritage clashes' for years now and I just don't know why that's all!!

Essendon's clash just needs to be a tad lighter and it'd be perfect. Agree though that an inverted black sash on red with red shorts would also be perfect and solve every clash (yes it would with St Kilda and Melbourne too). Removes the need to add another colour.

Because it is a heritage jumper. It's got a club great recognised on the front and all the players' names.
Just happens that it's useful to wear against other teams who wear black, because it's a silver/grey jumper.

What sort of things do you mean? Serious question, not taking the piss. I just feel it's hard to get people "involved" in the game, when they are, in reality, just sitting in a grand stand watching other people run around.

i guess what i am saying is i have kind of assumed for the last few years that essendon saying their silver jumper is a heritage strip is a kinda clever way of not 'bowing down' and having an outright clash jumper, like to appease their fans who want them wearing black and red. i was just surprised it's happening again in 2015 and wondered how much longer they'll pump out heritage jumpers, they should be special not every season i feel.

Does anyone know if Star Athletic are releasing a new jumper for Collingwood? Used to be that after a 2 year cycle, adidas would release a new one. We've had 2 years of Star Athletic now.
