New look English premier league

Them dumb poms need some help from us.

This is how the premier league should be changed :-

1) Keep all 20 teams but shorten the season by a month so a mickey mouse cup can be played pre-season

2) Because of above teams don't play each other twice any more.

3) Whoever finishes top at the end of the season gets nuthin.

4) The top 50% of sides (ten teams) go into a knockout competition and whoever wins that is deemed to be the champions of the whole season.

5) Scrap the FA Cup

Nice way of making your point, Frodo, but it's been made before about a thousand times.

The problem IMHO is that the chase for the almighty dollar sacrafices quality for quantity. The clubs don't want fewer games as they lose money at the gate. But the fans end up watching substandard football because of these silly Mickey Mouse Cups.

There should be a restriction of how many clubs can be in the league (I think FIFA HAS done this) but while there is money in it...

Yo forgot to mention that the bottom two in the premier legue no longer get relegated. In fact they get given 'credits' to pick up the best new talent !

In fact the top 6-7 places in premier league are worth getting - they qualify for european competition the next season which means big bucks.

So How's this dan - Award the premiership to the minor premiers and play your 'grand final' series at the beginning of the next season !

Why would you want to scrap the super bowl, dickhead. I never said we should scrap the Grand Final. The Grand Final is a huge event. Massive.

If you're going to have a separate tournament encompassing the best 8 teams in the country, it SHOULD be hled in the same season. Why would you want to hold it at the start of the next season, when playing lists and teams have changed???

That's the problem with the European cup. Teams can change personel over the off-season, and the team in the European cup, whilst the same "club", is effectively a differetnt team from the teasm that won the domestic competiton. What if they lose all their good players, like, say, Blackburn a couple of years ago, with their "one-seaosn wonder"

No, I'm saying that the finals series should be a seperate tournament to the H&A, just played amongst the best 8 teams in the country. This means, the winner of the Grand Final is called "Grand Final champions" or "Finals series champion".

Meanwhile, the top team on the ladder is the "premiers"

The superbowl actually emphasises one of my points. The two finalists have already been crowned champions of their own conferences. In fact I believe that the winners of each division in the conference are honoured to. Stealth may be able to confirm that.

The finals series is very exiting and needs to be at the end of the season, it is a great tradition. My contention, though is that the Minor premiers should get much more recognition and that there should only be six finalists ( a finalist with a negative win/loss ratio seems silly).

I'll add another wish. A knockout competition. 16,8,4,2 and final. Played midweek and similar to FA Cup. Maybe round 1 is played on a weekend, say after round 5.

So scrap the Ansett, reduce finals to 6 teams, increase league games to 30 and add a knockout cup. Matches played. minimum 31, maximum 38 including both finals.
Currently we have 22+ ansett +finals and used to fit in state of origins plus irish and London matches too. I believe that 31~38 matches is not an unreasonable work load. By all means increase the team pools to 50 if needbe. Every knockout cup would be a sellout so the money would be there. And hey, maybe sell the Frodo cup TV rights seperately to Channel 7. The FA Cup is seperate from premier league TV rights.

Dreamin on~~~~~~maybe a 32 team competition with 16 State league sides from around australia joining in. What a boost for local footy that would be!

BTW, Dipper, Frodos, post was in jest. He was merely emphasizing how stupid it would be to change the English system to the farcical system we have here in Australia, where the winner of the Grand Final is crowned "whole season" champs, because they won one match.

Okay, let me break this down for so simply. That way you can work out why this wouldn't work:

English Premier League
H and A winners declared premiers.
256 (or there abouts) team tournament winners declared FA Cup champions.
Been this way for 130 years or something.
The English people like it that way.

AFL/VFL
H and A winners declared minor premiers.
8 (or varying amount) team tournament winners declared Premiers.
Been this way for 103 years or thereabouts.
The Aussie poeple like it this way.
