Lonergan has said he's keeping 36.

Please Reimers, keep 37, so that my new jumper isn't obsolete after one year.

Cousins --> 9:p
1st round --> 11
Hocking/Hislop --> 14
2nd round --> 32

Leaving 21, 22, 35/39 free.

That would be the biggest insult to the #9 guernsey.
If he does come to Windy Hill,hopefully that isnt his number.

I agree,
Kyle should keep the 37..make it his own. :thumbsu:
(Along with the others!) ...but we'll soon find out :)

i reckon lonergan should get the 9, that boy screams courage, just like rama did.
id like to see davey in the number 11, just for the fact he would have speed stripes on his back, that would be sweet.
then i would give 14 to riemers, just seems to fit
give like 21 and 22 to some draftees

How so?

Cousins is an elite (by AFL standards) footballer, and one of the most meticulous trainers in the game.

If you ignore the fact that Cousins' stupidity caused his downfall, there are even comparisons between Rama and Cousins.

Both were fantastic footballers, who were struck down by off-field health issues. Another comeback in the number 9 at Essendon would be very nice.

Not to mention the fact that Cuz wore 9 at West Coast.

hopefully 33 is free too

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Apparently, Hocking, Houli and Lonergan are happy with their numbers. So that leaves the likes of Reimers to move down, plus new draftees.

It would be an insult because Rama was an inspiration. He was an excellent role model and showed that despite uncontrollable adversity, success is still possible.

Cousins, although a good footballer, is hardly an inspiration, or a role model. He is an addict who was consistently in strife due to his off field behaviour.

Hardly comparable IMO.

You oversell Rama, and undersell Cousins.

I was perhaps drawing a long bow with the comparison (just food for thought), but to say that giving Cousins Rama's number would be an insult is absurd.

I disagree, it isn't absurd. I wasn't talking about their football ability. Cousins was obviously a star on the field, no argument from me there. He was also a clown off it, which would not do justice to Rama's bravery.

But to give Cousins number 9 isn't an insult.

Should we retire the jumper until (God forbid) another player recovers from cancer?

That's a bit over the top don't you think?

No number should be retired. However, it isn't too much to ask for efc to pay Rama a little respect by not giving his number to a confessed addict who allegedly associates with criminals.

There will be other players more worthy of #9 if cousins does happen to land at windyhill.

If Cousins comes here, he will be the best player who arrives.

He wore number 9 at West Coast.

Makes perfect sense - it isn't an insult.

We'll have to agree to disagree here i think.

I think off field behaviour should also be considered when it comes to Rama, not just how good they were on the field.

I also think the fact that he wore #9 at west coast is completely irrelevant as efc should consider the wishes of the current players before new comers, and therefore give them prior opportunity to select the numbers they want.

Rama didn't chose to have cancer,but Cousins did chose to take drugs.
Big difference.

Cousins is a great player no doubt about it,
but just because he had the #9 at W.C doesn't mean he should have it at Essendon.

I agree with Here_we_come,
should be given to an Essendon player who deserves it,
even let Rama make a decision.
