Saints signed QB Jameis Winston to a one-year contract.
Winston's 30 interceptions tanked his chances of being an NFL starter in 2020, but of all backup jobs, the Saints' one is arguably the best. He will get to learn under a quarterback allergic to turnovers in Drew Brees this season and could inherit the starting job when Brees retires, which likely will be after this season. Winston's arm talent would shine in the Superdome with coach Sean Payton, Michael Thomas, Alvin Kamara, Emmanuel Sanders, and Jared Cook if he's forced into action at some point this season. As a 25-year-old last season, Winston averaged 8.2 yards per attempt on his way to 5,109 yards. Winston is a project worth working on, especially at his reduced price tag.

Really happy picking up Winston, very interested to see how he goes under Payton and learning from the goat.
The question I want to pose is, with picking up another quality centre, which of those 2 guys will end up playing guard?
McCoy played as well as anyone could have wanted next year to the point he was a bees dick away from pro bowl selection, do we want to move somebody who performed that well to guard and risk him not being as good in that position? What happens then if Ruiz doesnt show the same level of performance as McCoy did last year (and you'd expect he'd improve even more into his second season)?
Personally I'd rather McCoy up front with Ruiz at guard, but I don't know what would set either of them apart from either other.
We could have a beastly off next year with Sanders and a brutual O line...

Saints listed seventh-round QB Tommy Stevens as a tight end.
He's wearing No. 85 at practice, so his quarterbacking days are over. An athletic dual-threat quarterback out of Mississippi State, Stevens will have to prove himself on special teams and on the practice field at his new position to make the final roster. Some compared Stevens to Taysom Hill during the pre-draft process.

Kamara, who has had an unexcused absence from camp the past three days, is due $2.133 million in the final year of his rookie deal. With Christian McCaffrey and Derrick Henry setting the bar with extensions this offseason, Kamara is expected to keep away until the Saints either tack on guaranteed cash or extend him altogether. It's certainly jarring to see this news with only 10 days until the season opener, but fantasy players should not overreact until Kamara's ongoing situation becomes more clear. He remains Rotoworld's No. 4 overall player for 2020.

He followed that up shortly after saying not to take it out of context and that he believes its like Thomas last year, deal is almost done and both parties are happy.
AK isn't the kind of dude to hold a club to ransom anyway so no matter what he won't sit out the season, but odds on a deal is done within 2 weeks.

Josina Anderson reports the Saints are "open to trading" Alvin Kamara.
Ex-ESPN reporter Anderson has many strong connections in the player community. This would qualify as "stunning but not surprising," as the Saints and Kamara have not seemed anywhere close to on the same page with his expiring contract. Due $2.133 million in the final year of his rookie deal, Kamara has piled up touches for the Saints while taking a beating. He dealt with ankle and knee injuries last season and has dealt with a concussion. Headed into his age-25 campaign, Kamara knows the time to get paid is now. Kamara's departure would leave a gaping hole in the Saints' offense, but the win-now franchise is short on cap space. They also have a plug-and-play backup on the roster in Latavius Murray. This one could actually get interesting.

  Meanwhile, The Athletic's Jeff Duncan has confirmed the Saints are "open" to dealing Kamara if they can't come to a long-term agreement. Kamara has been away from the team for several days but evidently doesn't view it as a holdout. Yahoo's Charles Robinson has reported Kamara believes he deserves more in the range of the $16 million annually Christian McCaffrey is receiving, while the Saints want to start off more in the $12 million area. The only thing that is clear is that this situation is getting messy quickly.

Per Robinson, the Saints are "comfortable" in the $12 million range, which is top-five money. Kamara is a CMC-type talent, but he does not handle CMC-type workloads. $16 million is a real stretch, especially considering the Saints' perennially tricky salary cap situation. $14 million is the obvious compromise, but the Saints might genuinely be unwilling to go beyond the $12-$13 million range, though Robinson reports the Saints view Joe Mixon's $12 million per year as a fair "starting point." Someone leaked Tuesday afternoon that the club is "open to trading" its lead back. That feels unlikely for a club that is Super Bowl-or-bust, as always.

Saints aren't being unreasonable. He's no CMC. He should be very happy with Joe Mixon money considering his body can't hold up with a workload.

The Athletic's Jeff Duncan reports the Saints' "first option" is to re-sign Alvin Kamara, but that they will seek a first-round pick in trade talks if an accord cannot be reached.
There has been a tidal wave of Kamara information in the past hour, with the Saints leaking their trade willingness and Kamara directly saying he is not holding out or seeking a trade. In extension talks, the divide in average annual value appears to be $4 million, with Kamara aiming for roughly $16 million and the Saints hoping to remain in the $12 million range. A trade is hard to envision for a franchise dying to hoist another Lombardi, but sometimes wells simply become too poisoned. Stay tuned.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports Alvin Kamara is expected to practice Wednesday.
Kamara and the Saints are in the middle of heated contract negotiations that have reached the point that the Saints floated out that they'd trade him. It doesn't seem likely, especially with Pelissero reporting that the two sides "weren't that far apart on an extension" before Kamara left facilities this week. Kamara is apparently dealing with a back injury that's kept him away from Saints camp, so we'll have to learn more about that as details emerge. For now, it seems like Kamara will remain in New Orleans and likely end up being paid like the top-five running back that he is.

Seems a lot of conflicting reports, Rapoport on twitter saying he spoke to AK and his manager, they've never asked for a trade, actively negotiating an extension and never threatened a hold out, but has been in the building every day, just not at practice.
Further reports saying he missed practice due to having an SI inflam shot in his back..

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Saints and Alvin Kamara are "extremely close" to finalizing a multi-year extension.
The two sides are hoping to finalize the agreement in the coming days. Although the Saints and Kamara haven't been far apart in negotations over the past week, this development ensures the 25-year-old is available and on the field for his usual amount of reps in Week 1. Expect the final numbers to land somewhere in range of $13-$15 million annually.

The Saints have threatened the city-parish of New Orleans with moving their 2020 home games to Baton Rouge if mayor Latoya Cantrell continues to disallow limited-capacity seating.
Evidently, the Saints just have to have fans at their home games during a pandemic. Many other teams are doing so, of course. If the city's position is no fans, then it probably won't mind the temporary move, as zero economic activity is being created around the games, anyways. Our guess is the players would be less enchanted with the home game road trips. This is a hardball Saints negotiating tactic that might not really go anywhere. Even if they are distanced, indoor mass gatherings appear to be one of the primary drivers of the COVID-19 pandemic.
