I have been sent around 36 photo's from inside and outside of Waverley Park,
They were taken around 2 weeks ago and I have been asked to put them on my website, so if you are interested to see exactly what the state of the ground is please check out my site

link straight to the pictures is

Each picture is of extremely good detail and becuase of this each pic is around 200 k in size,
Please check it out, You may of seen some photo's in the newspapers and on tv but these will give you a better look at how bad the stadium is looking,

Warning for anyone who does remember the condition of the stadium in its final football days you might be horrified and sickend by these pictures,

I would really appricate it if you could tell as many people as possible to check these photo's out,
Its time the AFL were exposed.

thank you

at least that wonderful mosaic hasn't been vandalised - yet.

Its sad to see this ground in such a terrible state of disrepair.

To think 30 years ago this facility was touted to be the 'Saviour of Football'

Was the whole idea of this stadium pure folly in the first place ?

I don't think so - the basic idea of taking football out of Melbourne and setting up a facility in the 'burbs was adamned fine one.

But the timing could not have been worse really because the late 60's - early 70's period is marked by some of the worst architecture ever to grace the surface of Planet Earth.

So for Waverly, in 1970, it was a case of a great idea badly realised.

If the Stadium had been designed better, with better facilities, and better viewing, and more covered stands, with a decent public transport link, then it would still be much used and much loved today.

The Stadium was always a shocker in my opinion, if it had actually been a nice place to watch footy in from the very start, it would never have been abandoned.

cheers

BSA

Well said BSA. This ground was despised by all who made the journey to it in the 70's. It was roundly criticised for its lack of public transport & inadequate parking. I find it interesting that 25 years on, people speak of it as an icon of VFL/AFL footy. It was not known as "Arctic Park" for nothing, either. The playing surface was one of the best, but in all other respects, it was an abomination. The sooner they tear it down the better.

Even though I'm glad they got rid of the dump, it's interesting to see how long the grass has grown.

I think it's still bad how the AFL have just let it go. I guess they are far too tight to even take care of it as an investment (upkeep)

Why dont the AFL do a deal with the council there so local/regional sport can be based there?

There's gotta be more than can be done with a space that big.

The AFL really do have no idea. Not very cluey at all.

They were going to sell it. But that bullshit Heritage Listing stopped those plans for a while.
