Yeah figured that. I mean if you have a HD tv, then it does nothing?
HDMI can deliver high quality sound or vision without the risk of quality loss due to the conversion or compression of a video or audio signal. HDMI pictures should be smoother and sharper, with a distinct reduction in video noise.
HDMI has some built-in smarts that allow you to control any device connected via HDMI through the one remote. Since the HDMI connection allows two-way communication between devices, it gives you basic universal remote-like functions, for example it can tell the components in an HDMI-linked system to turn on when you want to watch a DVD, just with the press of a button.

OK, cheers.

Pre ordered my PS3, but spoke to the guy and said he can package it with a few games and a HDMI cable. Pretty much the same as the old package.

Have both a HD tv and non hd and will prob play it on both. Is it recommended to get the cable?

Yes, there's a noticeable difference.

Composite(red, white and yellow)gives you a max resolution of 480i
HDMI gives you a max resolution of 1080p
HDMI will give you the best picture/sound quality so it is worth getting, but dont buy any monster cable:thumbsd: a $200 cable will work the same as a $30 cable under 5 mtrs in length so dont get sucked in.
My 2mtr cable cost $30(plenty of cheap sites around if you look) and it works great.

Yeah getting the slim for sure.

Although I spoke to JB and they said it was 499 by itself, or 699 in the package with inFamous, whatever the other two games were and a HDMI cable.

Wasn't 699 the price of the original Playstation 3 package?

**** knows exactly yet what I'm gonna get.

Sports, Shoot 'em ups, whatever is good really.. Have a lot to catch up on!

HBK and another couple of posters gave me a pretty good list, so will probably look through that in the next couple of weeks and decide 5 or so. Not going to look for a bit cause I will get too excited and impatient :D.

Also a few of my mates have a handful of games they will let me borrow.

Should keep me busy untill FIFA 10 comes out. ;)

Once you try the hd tv (with a hdmi cable) there will be no going back ;)

Like others have said, definitely get the cable. :thumbsu:

Sure was. Gotta say the slim is great but giving up the ability to install linux for a smaller model at essentially the same price when bundled isn't that crash hot.

But around $230 of stuff ($50 HDMI, $110 Infamous and two cheap games) for $200 extra isn't really a bundle imo. Doesn't even compare - where does the Sony $100 price drop go? They're having a lend surely - the Harvey Norman offer is much better.

Have heard that there might be price drops on current models (if anyone has any left in stock)

Will find out tomorrow

I am geting me an 80GB tomorrow (but not from these price drops, another source) for a handy $350

Bargain

No games

Will probably get Uncharted and LBP at some stage

No rush, use it for Blu-Rays for a while

GT5 when that comes out will be a purchase

I'll use it for the odd exclusive that interests me and anything that comes out on both will get the 360 Version. But mainly for Blu-Ray

How can Sony make a profit when still they are losing money on the new PS3 slim?
Huh?

I thought Sony were breaking even with the current PS3 and the production costs of the Slim have been cut more than that of the retail price...

Here's evidence.

Sony were making $250 off every console sold by August 2009.

Not only is the price difference between the Slim and the 80GB less than $250, but the production costs have also been reduced.
