Kirsten might be a good addition too. Perhaps if we finish low enough we pick Kersten in the Preseason Draft.
I think he is pretty happy with the cats now will be hard to get him.

Roberton isn't really a KPP, we should have got something for him (well done Bond, another triumph) and he would be in our best 22 but he isn't a KPP
Wood was shorter and thinner than most of our midfielders wasn't he? All the rookies are speculative and shouldn't count, they're like putting your last $5 on the 0 in roulette before you hitch a ride home empty handed
Roberton is 194cm and has been playing 2nd or 3rd tall depending on who else was in the team. He's exactly the type of player that is the modern back. Yes we got nothing for him but he was worth something, in the normal course of events.

Wood was 192cm, maybe undersized for a KPP, but the same height as Pav, Darling, Stringer types.

Was he really 192? Looked smaller.

Calls were made on the coaching panel, we got 3 new ones

Yes one forced change and the recruiting of 2 new to coaching . But the coach that has contributed less than anyone else is Sumich .
Who has he developed ,Who has seen any improvement in skills of the players on our list .He was appointed as the director of coaching where is the evidence of his insight of how the team can benefit from the 4 changes in the rules .
The new 10 meter rule is the biggest change to how the game is played in 10 years .Players have time and space without pressure to pass the ball or play on .When it used to be almost impossible to kick goals deep in the pockets at Sydney and the MCG players now can move 5 meters ,open up the angle and slot an easy goal
Never mind the interpretation of deliberate out of bounds .RTB 's game plan meant that we used the boundary to take the heat off our backline when opposition teams stared to get on top , now player have to make every effort to keep it in and thus more turnovers if our player doesn't have support hence teams with young fast running players can get numbers to the contest , they win more of the ball and they can keep attacking .Western Bulldogs ,Greater Western Sydney and Carlton have benefited the most from this rule .
Less interchanges has also cause us more problems with the aging list .The RTB game plan was based on enormous 2 way running and manic pressure .
Other teams with not so many big midfielders are using smaller and faster midfielders .They are using speedy handball to players on the outside instead of kicks to get the ball moving . Ross recognized that the old game plan and the lumbering midfield would not cut the mustard .
The removal of the SUB rule has meant that all players on the bench are in the game from the first bounce down so every one named must be able to run out the whole game and to be honest the young players on our list are struggling in that area since the number of injured players we have and the under performing players we still have on our list who have been there for years . With the injuries to key players our underbelly has been exposed .
Clarkson has shown the way to stay on top and that is by rotating players on a regular basis .Keeping the team fresh by resting senior players when they have niggles .Their systems at all levels work even when senior players retire and his assistant coaches get top jobs as coaches at other clubs .
Recruiting at Hawthorn is another reason they haven't slipped .Geelong the same .
For those saying that its hard to get players from other clubs to move to the WEST look no further that the guys down the road .

I think the director of coaching is the biggest flaw here. The other three new coach can't do much they are new to freo environment will be afraid to give their idea also.

Very good point, if you think you have the next Patrick Dangerfield you just cant pass that up and you would once again try to fix your key position issues from your later picks. We all want a great key position forward to replace Pav but at the moment it seems that there may not be one that is worth the pick we are going to have.

The value of a pick is relative to a team's situation though - need > best available is the model that works, even if it "dilutes" the value of our pick on paper - so we might end up with a top-3 pick but using that on a midfielder who is rated top-3 bring us less value than perhaps taking a tall rated 5-10 or even only top 15.

I really don't see what bringing in more midfield talent is going to do to improve our situation, at least to the extent a top draft pick should. We'll get marginally better even if we land a star midfielder but perhaps a tall who's B-grade gives us a working player mix.

You guys are right the modern style should suit Macarthy , Kersten and also Mayne who I rate similar but doesnt seem to be thriving at the moment we will see if the other two are much better in the long run.

The modern style should suit Tabs too, hypothetically at least... He should thrive in the extra space.

Tabs/McCarthy - both very mobile and might be a hard matchup in the future.

Agood forward coach should look at his leading because he gets caught under the ball far too often instead of being in a position to launch himself at the dropping ball and meeting it on the way down .A point raised by Dremitt Brereton in his post match summery .

I think Clarke will go pre season also.
We will be packing his bags for him. With a bidding war between a couple of desperate clubs and a lot of luck, we might get 2nd round compo or at least an early 3rd.

Too bad we don't have more out of contract or someone not too good who could get a first rounder.

IMO the difference between between Taberner and McCarthy / Kersten / Mayne is the "burst" speed; the other three have it (In fact I recall Kersten was comparable with fast midfielders over 20m) whereas Taberner only has the endurance, so he has to wear his opponent down. Agreed though that the reduced interchange numbers should improve his chances.

Wellingam. Redden. Jetta. Yeo.

They gave up a lot to get Yeo and some spuds.

I like what they've done. They gave up a couple late first round and 2nd draft picks for players who could come in and have an impact.

This allowed them to trade out fringe players which got them back in the draft and refreshed their list.

The players we've drafted with similar picks have hardly been inspiring (Simpson, Sheridan, Apeness, Pitt, Crozier) and also meant we've held onto list cloggers till we can't get anything for them.

It's basically what the Hawks do. Our list management team should be taking notes.

If we'd traded for that bunch all but Yeo would be complained about on here like D.Pearce is. Except worse, because we would have given up something of value to get them.

The question though is who would want him?

He's a ruckman. That's his saving grace. There will always be a club out there that is desperately short on ruckmen. Frickin Cain Ackland changed 3 clubs and lasted at least 7-8 years in the system.

Yep if Essendon can get some trade value from Giles to a grand finalist team then maybe we can derive some value from Hannath. Suspect it would be as steak knives though.

I agree. On exposed form across the time they have been in WA, Danyle Pearce has been better than all of them. Yeo is young and has potential but the others would have been hounded relentlessly.

We should also include X Ellis, Bradd Dalziel, Kane Lucas, Jamie Bennell in this picture.

Really hope they are reviewing there drafting policy and staffing before we stuff up the 2016 draft. I'm sure ross will be furious. I hope he is furious. Get mad roscoe

What would it cost to get Dalrympole from the Bulldogs? would he be on big money? potentially these guys will be on big money in years to come.
