Good luck on the weekend blues! Lets hope this starts the beginning of a new rivalry between these 2 young teams up the correct end of the ladder where they belong. I want to get back to hating carlton with a passion just like the old days :thumbsu:
Btw my tip : Hawks by 19 pts :)

It might be the start of a new rivalry. The Blues look destined for success in the very near future, but I still have doubts as to whether the Hawks can mirror our progress, for several reasons. Overall, I don't think the Hawks have nearly the same level of talent as the Blues, especially in the defensive half. This is still a talent deficient area for the Hawks. The Blues also have much more promising ruck talent i.e. Hampson, Aisake, and Jacobs, that will be a factor over the next several years. And finally coaching-game plan. Pagan/Ratten/Bradley are just light years ahead of Clarkson/Danny Frawley The Blues look certain to adopt a high pace, free running style of play. Will be interesting to see if the Hawks keep resorting to the stop-start-chip-backwards-Hodge-backpockrt-receive gameplan. :)

In a few years time when Murphy and Gibbs are as good as Hodge and Mitchell, there should be some great battles indeed. Get Xavier Ellis out there too please guys!

Both teams laced with a plethora of exciting talents should be good to watch.

:), nice thread buddy.

hawthorn essendon carlton richmond will hopefully all be the best teams in melbourne in the near future, the saints, doggies, collingwood, north will be the worst, just like the "good ol days"
the good ol days how far back are you going, the 80's

Obviously I am biased, but I truly believe that Carlton have a more even playing list than Hawthorn. I agree with what Parrot said, in that Hawthorn really seem to have a backline with little or no depth, and a forward line that can be covered.

As it sits right now, i'd much rather have Carltons list than Hawthorns.

Yeah, I can't wait for these teams to be strong again. Personally I was one grandfinal win away from supporting Hawthorn. Love Buddy Franklin and I hope the game in Tassie will be a thriller.

I've got hawks down by 7 points

wouldnt mind taking buddy & hodge though

Good thread.

There is a lot to be said for the Hawks, lots of positives and the recognition being received is well deserved. On the other side of the coin its hard for anyone to see how the blues are ever going to improve after so many years down the bottom, and thats the clincher. The blues are defnitely THE team of the future and will be THE one to watch.

This game will be interesting, I think there will be a lot of hard running teams around in the comming years, but the blues havent been sucked into such a one dimensional scope. And although we have clearly added pace, we have balanced this with only pacey NATURAL footballers who are skilled and can read the game. Murp, gibbs, anderson, grigg, kade, walker (post apprentice ship) etc. hampson being an exception.

that said we will be all be faster, no doubt, so it will again come down to who has the skill and better footy smarts......that, no doubt is the blues.

good luck on the weekend, blues by 11 points.

Alright, where do i start? First of all, in regards to progress, it's an obvious fact that Hawthorn's 'progress' is 2 years ahead of carlton's, on the ladder and with the exposure of star priority pick recruits. So any 'mirroring' will be done by carlton. Secondly, Danny Frawley is only employed on a part time basis, the real coaching staff consisting of Hardwick, Viney and Rath, all of which are proven no-nonsence, dedicated professionals. Some of which including Coach Clarkson were involved in creating Port Adelaide's premiership. Oh, and about your last comment, did you happen to catch our last 1/2 dozen or so matches? One of which Carlton were convincingly beaten? Some how a game plan like you've mentioned wouldn't be capable of kicking over 100 points by half time, ie rd 20?
PS, if all you guy's think your Josh Kennedy is good, wait till you see ours!

yep AFL needs the victorians sides get rid them and down hill the afl will go
we started it off first

no good whats happend in the past we should be going forwards not Backward :thumbsu:

I wouldn't say Hawthorn are 2 years ahead in terms of development. I'd say they're ahead in midfield development, but behind in key position. Unless you can argue that Dawson and Roughead are more established than Thornton and Waite. Not only that, but they need to develop more key position players than the Blues. Carlton already have Fevola and Whitnall.

In fact I think Carlton already have the talls to do some damage. We're only waiting on the midfield to come along.

we got o'halpin, thornton down back after how well O'halpin played so well against Lloyd Hawthorn would need to be at their up most best to beat us this year :) we'll be alot better then what alot expect us eg the media prove to them that all the more they rubbish us all the more we'll win and rub it into their faces we fed off their rubbish :D

I think you under estimate Hawthorn's tall KPP's, atleast our more recent un-exposed drafts. Franklin, Roughead, Birchall, Croad, Thorpe, Campbell, Dowler, Dawson, Bailey, Boyle, Renouf, Taylor, Gilham and more. Every one of these guy's are over 6ft 2in. Carlton supporters and expecting to be beaten in the mid-field but think they'll out do us at both ends. Prepare yourselves for a rude awakening in about 3 hours. I don't want to detract from the original post and just say good luck for the future and remember we'll be right there with you.:thumbsu:

Parrot, this is a serious question.
Do you actually believe the things you post or are they dangled out there like a prawn on a hook in wait?

The Hawks had 3 very imporatant "walk up start" defenders mising tonight in Smith, Jacobs and Croad. I'm not proclaiming any of those guys as saviors, but theyre very important in our team structure.

Sorry, I just can't stop laughing when you listed those "3 very important players". Are you serious? The "we didn't play our best team" excuse card doesn't hold. Your defense is a massive concern, and was the reason Clarkson ultraflooded for much of the game. What was also funny was that Clarkson was upset that short kick marks weren't being rewarded. Quite obvious that he wanted to employ the mind-numbing chip-kick-stop-start-Hodge-back-pocket-receive-gameplan again. You need a new coach badly. I agree with Jeff. :)
