"New Roo" Footy?

It was quite evident on Friday night that when the ball was rebounded out of our backline that our boys were more content to run with the ball and/or try to draw the opposition, instead of bombing it long to CHF.

It worked quite well for 3/4's and is obviously a new game plan from the coaching staff.

With all the young guns getting a crack at the big time due to injuries/bad form/suspensions, is this the birth of the "New Roo" brand of footy?

You did see it correctly. I also noticed that there was some genuine excitement among the North fans from the fact we had so many kids in the team and that the game plan had changed.

The question is, when Carey returns next week, will Pagan continue on with this new game plan or will we return to the bomb it to Carey method?

Having two game plans to use is better than just one. Let's hope that if the Pagan's Paddock/long bombs plan isn't working, the newer plan is used, even if Carey is in the forward line. A bit of flexibility never hurt anyone.

I'd like to see the Roos start with the same game plan as last week (running and handballing etc) with Carey in the pocket, Rocca as a leading full forward and Morrell as mobile CHF. Hopefully, this could make the opposition change their plan so that the CHF position is freed up, North can switch to the long-bomb, and the King can take a few grabs. Add a few crumbers (Grant/King/Harvey) and maybe Arch or Corey as a fourth marking option and the forward line starts to look as good as it was in the days of Longmire/Sholl/Crocker/Roberts/Allison and Number 18 (can't remember his name!)

I agree that having a few game plans is better as it makes the team more flexible. The future looks good for the Roos with so many promising young players. If only a third of them realise their potential I think we will get 3 or 4 class players.
