So if they don't make a bid for them before the ND and nobody picks them up in the ND, then they can pick them up with a last live pick in the ND. Makes sense.
Westcoast have Alec Waterhouse coming through the state system looking towards the 2014 Draft, so if he isn't worth a ND selection we can pick up with a rookie pick. :thumbsu:

For 'mature' F/S options, they can still be bid on later, see the kid Brennan..

Was he good enough to be selected in the National Draft anyone? or was he selected more so on the romance of him being the first AFL F/S player for West Coast.

Yes, but Hawks would have used RD on him, NM would have bid over the top as Hawthorn weren't looking at him in the ND
What Pykie was saying was that the Hawks would not have had a chance to use an RD pick on him - NM would've (presumably) still taken him in the ND. The probable sequence of events would've been:

- Hawthorn "indicate their interest in taking him on as a rookie" before trade week (normal f/s bidding time).
- NM takes him in the draft.
- Hawthorn misses out.

I think overall this is a good change.

Neither are eligible for the Swans, unless this rule also applies to the Academies.
My gut feeling was that they introduced this this year in preparation for the academies next year. Those are much more likely to produce rookie-level players and this gives the clubs a way to get those kids on to the rookie list.

Daniel Thompson from Calder eligible for essendon. I would have thought that fields and Williams are the best two prospects.
