Goal sqaure looks absolutely ridiculous, can't believe the AFL will tick this off. Mind you it will suit us with Short direct to Lynch!
The longer goal square will also cause the midfield to be more congested with midfielders, defenders and small forwards all in the same area.

I think it will create more options for the fullback kicking in and spread the zone a little more, but teams will definitely throw more players in the middle and protect the corridor. Doesn't matter what it does, still looks terrible.

We give away plenty of frees and intercept marks 15-25m and still force a lot of turn overs.

All I can see this doing (if it works as the AFL hopes) is opening up the gap between good and poor teams, as poor teams struggle to slow down scoring.
It Will make it easier to defend a kick out

Yeah me too. Clubs will be just pull back zones and happily give up the short kick into the pocket because they’ll hem teams in on one side of the ground. We will love it with the deep pockets at the G.

18 metres seems such a random number, why not make it 15 metres when that is the length of a legitimate kick for a mark and the distance between bounces. Perhaps it would give too accurate a reference point as neither are actively policed

Because it’s double the length of the current goal square.

Gerard Wankley jerking off over the rule changes on 360

"genuinely exciting" he says
You mean Gerard wankley who didn’t even play the game in primary school , that Gerrard who is now dictating rules about a game he has only watched?

No no no, they think players will set up as they do now and with the 18m rectangle the kick ins will go over their heads and the opposition will run into open goals, 18m square is only useful for up the guts hail marys which are easily defended and the opposition know before the ball gets kicked where it's going anyway because of what players head to that area, go to the flanks and its normally to a contest so nothing will change.

Players will not be happy.

If we make the GF, whether we win or lose players will have to stick around for months of match simulation to prepare for the 2019 premiership tilt.

It will be critical to list management who stays who goes to, the players we target etc... prior to free agency and the trade period let alone the draft
