I also find that when there is a problem somewhere in the lower extremity it can change the way a person runs. In the video "Charlie hits the training track" Muffins Colquhoun was running a lot more upright and Dixon had his heel strike in front of him. You can see this 17 sec in and not at the 29 sec mark where they are taking off into a sprint. He does move well for a big man and Ford pointed out that it may be an idea to change the way he plays. I believe the club saying he could play deeper is an indication that they will do that anyway. However, I feel that if he improves in a few areas he may naturally adopt more of a fore foot stance.

I also believe that we are looking at the issue of the players not bulking up all wrong. As the head fitness coach the buck stops with Burgess and as far as winning and losing is concerned- Hinkley. The size and strength of the players is the domain of the strength coach and I believe the coaches and trainers that have left were quietly moved on. Edwards made way for the Bass and the club probably felt that while Poulos was a great servant we needed somebody to better apply the strength program. They probably had given him time to move on rather than be let go as it is better for his employment chances.

The work that Burgo does allows the players to run out games and improve on their skills as athletes but speed and agility are actually developed in the weights room. For example, Agility training involves a rapid change of direction from the initial direction of momentum. If the strength program isn't good enough their will be no improvement when you use a skip rope, ladder or whatever training implement.

The agility ladder Burgo uses is a great way to program movement so it is only a tool that can get the brain thinking.

Poulos was the crows fitness coach which Breton replaced.

Rondenelli was the S&C coach we had that got moved on/got a job with thanasi kokinanis.

And just quietly, I think Poulos left. He wasn't too chuffed with Burton coming in with the amount of responsibility the board gave him. Pretty sure he got the rugby 7's job.
Yes he is with the Oz 7's team and I dont think he wanted to leave the crows but was sideline to the extent he had no real choice but to look around.

His LinkedIn page shows he is on the Burgo academic route. Will work in well with the Burgo / UniSA academy set up I think. The ASPIRE Academy in Qatar we pinched him from, is the Qatari government equivalent of the AIS. He would have be on a good wicket there. The Qatari's thru their Sovereign Wealth Fund bought Paris Saint Germain ie PSG in the French Ligue in 2011 ( as part of buying 2022 WC votes ie Platini) and are now ranked top 5 in the Deloitte's Football Money League after being ranked 30-35 prior to that. If Mladen was to have stayed at ASPIRE and was any good, he probably would have ended up at PSG.

Just a random thought but I wonder if the club It's considering Mladen as some sort of succession plan if/when Burgess switches full-time in a university developing role rather than head of fitness. Is it even possible that Burgess sees that as his next pathway?

For those of you who are worried that the guy doesn't have a handle on strength training and bulking up. He is like Burgo only in the weights room. Burgo is busy and can't be responsible for all aspects of fitness such as strength and conditioning. Burgo looks over the whole program but doesn't implement all of it. Hiring this guy is a look at where we can improve and indeed all changes to our team whether it is the players or staff has been pretty strategic.

Was just looking at this guys work in strength training. He is a leader in velocity training. Where the speed of the movement dictates how much weight the athlete should be lifting. This is good for maximum lifts (greater than 90% of 1RM).
i liked this, but i had no idea what you wre saying :)

I was a bit vague but imagine finding a weight you can lift only 12 times. Then imagine measuring the speed that each lift takes. The speed and effort that it takes to lift the last two reps is similar to the speed and effort of a weight that you can only lift twice.

Mladen says this is a better way to estimate how much player should be lifting at their maximum. Looks like the boys will be a lot stronger going into the next season :)
