Howdy folks.

An ex-Eagles fan (and member for the last 8 years) would like to check in to Tigerland. Not an easy decision to make, however, I made the call a while back that if the Eagles would not support their greatest player after all he had given the club, and in light of the inconsistencies regarding his penalty and the sanctions in place, then I would be finding myself a new home.

I'm not jumping ship at the convenience of their low finish this season. West Coast tanked to perfection, has rebuilt itself in 2 drafts, and will be a serious threat in the next 2-3 years. Good on them, but it's not enough to make me want to follow them.

Nor am I selecting Richmond based on the fact that they took Cousins today (no doubt that has made it easier). When it became apparent 2 months ago that West Coast would be passing on the opportunity to re-draft Cousins (in order to appease the sponsors, AFL, and with total disregard for the opinions of the supporters), I started the search for a new club.

The Tigers were a traditional club that I thought would be a good fit (I hate Carlton...re Judd... Essendon were out of the question as they had the better of the Eagles, and Collingwood just don't do it for me). They have a young list (unproven but with upside), have been starved of recent success, and are followed by a strong group of very passionate supporters. I want to see them win a flag.

I'm now going to call myself a Richmond man and can't wait to watch every Tigers game (signed up for Foxtel today). I will be grabbing a membership as soon as possible.

It feels good to be now following a club that is willing to back it's players even if that means taking a risk. The game of AFL will be better off now, thanks to Richmond.

Bring on Round 1  :D

Same for me Masta..been with West Coast 17 years prior to them shafting Ben..I walked for the same reason.

Ill stay with Richmond now because they were the only ones with enough guts, vision and nouse to take him. Thank **** for Sheedy.

Im signing up.
Pathetic of both of you. The club is always greater then the individual. Naive of you not to understand West Coast's position. Disgraceful act to change teams:thumbsdown:

Welcome aboard :thumbsu:

Hey if WC didnt do it for these supporters then hopefully Richmond will

Sometimes people enjoy individuals rather than a team, not everyone is the same.
In life you seek until you find what gives you that great feeling deep inside...

Go The TIGERS!!

Cousins was given a plethora of chances, many we probably don't even know about.
He broke a promise to the club and it's fans. We took him back with a last chance condition in regards to his off field shenanigans, and he again showed disregard to theses conditions enforced by his employer.
We don't know what WC did or didn't do to help him, so claiming we didn't support him is a stupid argument.
We were facing serious ramifications had we not sacked him. The loss of draft picks, sponsors and premiership points supersedes a player. Had we not sacked him, they would have de-registered him anyway, so all we would be doing would be making a futile resistance to our bosses, the AFL. So claiming that we shouldn't have sacked him is the epitomy of idiocy
At the end of the day, the admin made the right call. If we hadn't sacked him, we would have lost more than cousins. We don't know what the club did or didn't do to help cousins. There are surely drug users in vic clubs, and we don't know how they are being helped.
As such, there is very little substance to the claim that the club handled the situation horribly, so jumping ship is just a testament to your love of a player over the team, and that you are a pathetic excuse for a human being.

West Coast will always be my Team but I know who I will be barracking for in Round 1...go the Tigers! Not sure about other West Coast supporters but I can't stand Carlton but I really respect Richmond...definitely my second Team now:thumbsu:

this thread has made me laugh and want to throw plates..

people having a crack at west coast for getting rid of cousins need to have a good look at themselves.

I wonder how many richmond supporters had potshots at ben back in 06-07 and have now done a complete backflip and love the bloke.... good luck to him but my mail is he's still on the gear.

You both are a ****en disgrace. If i was a Richmond supporter I'd be appauled to be cheering along with these two ****wits. Wait till Cus retires these two will probably kneck themselves because they won't have anything left.

Disgrace.

hells yeah. Someone should do an elaborate user-post search to find the hypocrites.
*Looks around to everyone else and backs out of the room*

Nice troll... get ****ed Sassegum.
Nope Mastablingbling is/was a real WCE poster.
This doesn't surprise me considering the stupid stuff he used to post.

Good riddance mate you are not a real supporter. I hope you tore up your membership so real supporters can get a seat. What a joke you are.
(that last part was aimed at mastablingbling ;))

No to both.

When I said "sticking by it's players" I am referring to the idea that a club should ensure that it's players are treated equitably and enjoy the same rights under the AFL system that every other player receives.

It's a matter of principle, and i'm sticking by mine.
What a flog.
Your ridiculous backwards logic has left me speechless.

sorry anti , i dont normally have a go at westcoast supporters.

in every state i have a team that i dont mind as much as the other.
in wa i like w/c more than freo
in sa i like crows more than port
sydney & brisbane in my mind i prefer lions

but today i will make an exeption, you must be a real tool.

he was a cancer & we had to cut him loose.....what a pathetic post

so if your mother, father, sister, brother, son or daughter or best friend
contracted cancer you would '' cut him loose'' will you

if you dont support your players when they need help or at least help them to get back on their feet. what sort of a person are you

people like you would have told adam ramanauskus to get stuffed when you found out he had cancer.

i am wrapped that ben cousins is at richmond & wanted him last year when west coast sacked him before he was de-registered.

but in all honesty, westcoast should of taken him back to show the support that richmond have offered him.

so next time you are speaking (posting) about people dont refer to them as a cancer.
Your post would be accurate if your analogies were correct.. uneducated post.

The analogy you should be using is, would you 'cut him loose' if you were his employer?
The answer is clearly yes.
An AFL club is not family as much as you may want it to be. It is a workplace.

Edit: after reading the rest of this thread it has become apparent The Gun is an idiot and not worth replying to.. oh well..
