i'm not sure how you come to that conclusion

Never. The 46,000 for the re-opening against Newcastle a couple of weeks ago was a Broncos ground record.

the penrith panthers consistently get 20,000 to their games
They've done it 4 times in their history.

I couldn't see the AFL moving their grand final to the evening.

The whole point of the day is to have a barbie, get ****ed, watch the game, then play kick to kick ****ed brainless then go out and get ****ed more.

It's a tradition I love, and damned if they're going to change it on me!!

But seriously - why are so many people convinced that the NRL grandfinal outrated the AFL granny?

Is there a............... Sydney MEDIA CONSPIRACY?????!!!!!

Probably not. I just thought I'd throw that one in.

yeah i'm a bit dissappointed that the grand final has been pushed to sunday nights. if it's a public holiday i spose you can go out and watch it at a leagues club and then go out afterwards, but i always liked the barbies with families and friends you havent seen since christmas, that went on all day and afternoon, stretching well into the evening. i'm not interested in picking up chicks on GF night, hence why going out doesnt have as much appeal as the beer, bbq and bloke get together that is part and parcel of day grand finals.

BTW, the AFL would be wise considering a move to sunday. people like myself who play cricket (as would a huge proportion of AFL fans) never get a chance to see the GF. i have never seen an AFL GF on the tv live. last year i was at a wedding (damn north qld rednecks :p) and every other year i have cricket. sundays would be a lot more viewer friendly.

A sunday game wouldn't be a problem, but the tradition'd possibly block that, though.

Victorians are very big on the tradition side of football (some of them anyway) - there are plenty enough who'd like the seventies back when the regular season consisted of six VFL matches at suburban grounds every Saturday afternoon of winter and these interstaters minded their own business.

Suburban and Country footy virtually always makes sure that their grand finals are the week before the AFL granny at the absolute latest, plus when about ten years ago the AFL considered moving to prime-time grand finals for TV and fireworks and what not it was blasted down by the clubs, the players and the fans.

(And AFL grand final BBQs have plenty of chicks, some of them even repectable!!;) )

Pity Dim itri has gone .I had a question for him .Round 15 NRL had four games in Sydney for a total of 35k .Does that say something .

Wow. Those TV figures for the NRL GF are pretty impressive.

NZ Warriors v Sydney City pulling in over 2,000,000 viewers. I hadn't seen those figures before.

Interestingly or not (which ever way you see it) the AFL GF pulled in less 500.000 more viewers despite loudly and proudly proclaiming to be the only true National Comp in the country.

Also interesting, was more people watched the NRL GF in Melbourne, than people watched the AFL GF in Sydney.

Gosh, I hadn't seen those figures before either.
Very interesting.....and great for rugby league.

They've only ever played one game there. And the crowd was 46,337.

At least AFL is a NATIONAL league, with regular season games being held in *all capital cities*. How can the NRL call itself national when it only has games in four of the eight Australia capitals?

You may not realise it, but the Broncos played at Lang Park before moving to Anz Stadium....and I am pretty sure back then they did draw around the 50,000 mark for some games then.

The only reason why the re-opening game at Anz drew 46,337 was because ground management did not want to open up all the ground until SOO as they wanted to test out the ground re seating/ticketing/food/drink/merchandise sales, etc. with a smaller crowd...tickets sold out well before opening day.

Well, I would have like Dimitri to stay on board......its pathetic banning someone because they have a different opinion.

I should be up to speed, but was that last weekend or the weekend before...if it was the weekend before.....there was a Wallabies Test Match on at Stadium Aust..where about 65,000 people attended.

This is a stupid point which we have discussed numerous times...simple....rugby league people tend to not go to games in such numbers as afl people do......has always been the case as far as I know......but they still love their teams and the game and are not as obsessed with those *crowd* figures as some people are on this board.

Sydney people seem to have a more relaxed attitude re sport.

ms storm, dimitri was hijacking threads. you'd mention the Sydney swans, and he'd take it off at a tangent. "yes the sydney roosters are doing very well etc etc..."

re lang park. the ground capacity was lower before the redevelopment. it was at ANZ stadium that they got all their big crowds originally, but they gradually decreased over the years.
