Eddie last night called for other clubs to come up with new traditions to attract supporters.

He belives that ANZAC day should be reserved for Essendon v Collingwood and I have to agree with him, they started it, good on them I say. But what about every other club? what are some traditions that other clubs could start?

ANZAC Day - Derby day - Port v Adelaide and West Coast v Fremantle

Queens Birthday - Collingwood v Melbourne

Easter - plenty of options for Easter Monday, maybe even Good Friday.

North probably deserve good Friday as they pioneered night football - maybe proceeds could go the the RCH appeal - just a suggestion.

The new tradition I want to see is Geelong v Essendon on or as close to May 7 as possible, like they did in 1996 for the re-enactment game. For it to work well though, it has to be a night match and the only one on at the time, also at the MCG. To traditionally re-enact the first VFL game ever played would be a great marketing tool for both clubs and as always between these two teams would draw a bumper crowd.

I think it would be fantastic if a tradition from the eighties was revived for the Hawks.

Every year we'd get to play a blockbuster on the last Saturday in September. At first they put Essendon up against us, then Carlton a few times. But people being people, they got jealous of our monopoly and starting putting a bit of pressure on to let other teams have a go. So they put Melbourne, Geelong and West Coast up against us to give it a bit of variety.

Those were the days! Bring back that tradition.

probably... I wil tell you what they probably deserve as they pioneered Friday Night Football... and that is to have it back and at the MCG...

The North Melbourne and Friday night football argument is a red herring. Yes they pioneered it but there is a game every week not once a year!

Hawthorn v Melbourne is one game I think has the potential to get a great rivalry going if it is well marketed. I thought 30,000 was a pretty good crowd considering the conditions last week.

Port and Collingwood should play for the right to be called the Magpies. Wouldn't that stir some passions!

I like the idea. Ess and Carlton can build up on Good Friday Eve and I think Melbourne and Geelong on Easter Monday is a winner.
