Melbourne went to Casey to try and tap into an expanding suburb so why not plant the flag out west and bring in another wave of supporters. We're strong out north but why not go west young man.

Do some community work, primary school visits, training, autographs and some practice matches and you expand that base. Why the **** not? Will pay for itself ten times over.

Cool only 5 min from where I live! Collingwood already have massive support out in the west but will be great to grow our brand even bigger

What I like about it is that the AFL keep trying to bind us up but we're saying we'll keep growing the base with our money which you won't be able to tax as non FD spend and when the AFL eventually has to step into the breach to provide the top-up money to other clubs (as they should with their war-chest) we'll be ready to become an absolute behemoth. The goal of 100,000 members is not far off.

Why the fcuk would collingwood want a second training facility?
We just spent a fortune refurbishing westpac and have about the best facilities anywhere, in the most perfect location.
That city is a complete con, it's a bullshit story a bunch of developers have made up to sell cheap plots of land for more than they are worth, it will never become anything remotely like that 3D rendering, not for 50 years anyway even if it did.

Some kind of pet shop boys reference.

This doesn't reflect what I do/don't think about the potential build, don't the club already have some affiliation in Caroline Springs? Or am I imagining things? A restaurant, or some sort of club perhaps?

If it's another training facility it would have to be something used on a part-time basis. Perhaps something focused for off-season training, or better facilities for injured players to train at etc. There's no way we'd be moving our standard training sessions out there surely?

A pub?

Ed must have itchy feet, Pies haven't moved anywhere for at least 10 years.:)

Seems like we might want to be in on the westward expansion of the city, with an alternative training facility and all that goes with it. The Bombers have two training ovals at different dimensions. We couldnt possibly let them have that advantage.

There's also no suggestion that we are thinking of doing a St Kilda to Seaford type fiasco. If it brings in more members and $, and provides more in the way of training advantages to us, then I'm all for it.

Maybe? I remember thinking about applying for a job at Collingwood but then I realised it was a hospitality job in Caroline Springs.

I'm very cynical about this, and Eddie hasn't been quoted as saying anything denying it.
This is a massive development and yes we have the Caroline Springs pub so I'd ask do any of our very wealthy directors have any interest in seeing this area develop and expand?

Oh and at least so far they haven't tolled the roads out west!

Fantastic move if done correctly!!

With a cap on football department spending and us making money hand over fist we must invest our earnings somewhere as a non for profit organization.

I would have preferred the move to be more central, but the Westpac centre can only be developed so much and this will allow us to expand our facilities exponentially.

Developers never lie.....

Why do we need a second training facility that far out of town? It would be madness to move from Westpac centre, do you think players will drive 23km after a night game to do rehab? Or pop in for an extra session that far away?

The developer is just using Collingwoods name, only possible use would be if we moved the vfl team there.

These big new developer-driven suburbs are forced to include a % of 'community' and 'leisure' facilities so they don't just build houses. A football ground lets them triple-dip on the open-space, community facilities and leisure infrastructure requirements. They just need a 'tenant' to justify it and sneak it past the planners.

Richmond was a 'tenant' of Craigieburn when it was built, but have barely been near it. Geelong announced it was going to be a tenant of a new suburb, then after approval, shelved it all.

There is a pretty good training ground 5 mins up Punt / Hoddle St.

5 minutes on Punt Road gets you from Brunton Avenue to Bridge Road if you're lucky.

Well we aren't allowed to splash our cash on more coaches and fitness staff, so may aswell build up our empire.

We don't have cash to splash ... We're going to be paying for the current upgrade for a few years.

I would have thought there'd be more value in Collingwood (aka "biggest sporting club in Australia") setting up an auxillary training base interstate rather than yet another one in Melbourne.

Story suggests this will be an additional training venue, not a replacement of the Westpac centre so after match rehab not a factor.

Not opposed to the Pies spending money to improve training options as they've done at the Westpac centre. Do wonder why they couldn't invest the capital back at Vic Park though, improving the facilities and playing surface.
