Call me crazy, but I think McLean will get the nod if he gets in a solid pre-season. For my money, he's displayed better leadership qualities than Bryce or Murph (albeit at another club, but thats never stopped us before ;))

when selecting a captain or VC you must consider 2 things:

1. Is the player a good onfield leader.

2. How will this motivate the player.

Remembering the effect this had on shane crawford where her pulled his head in after being made captain and played so well and lead well for a fair while.

Considering point 2, i am putting my money on Waite.

Would be staggered if it isnt Kade Simpson.

Murph, Brock, Waite, and maybe Gibbs/T-Bird to round out the leadership group.

How did I forget about Kade?! Definitely throw his name up to the top of the list. He showed great signs this year, definitely leadership material.

Agree with Brock was probably going to be the next captain of Melbourne:thumbsu::thumbsu:

Marc Murphy eager to prove there is life after Brendan Fevola
"I reckon it will be a good test for us. We are all looking forward it," he said.

"With Fev going up there and Juddy missing out on the first three games we are looking forward to showing what we have got and showing it's not just a one-man side and picking up the slack," he said.

"We have nothing to lose going up there and having a crack at them, so it should be great."

"We all need to step up. Everyone is getting a little bit older with another year gone by, and everyone is maturing into their bodies."

"It's a cop-out now saying we are young. Just like most other sides in the AFL now, we are young. It's that kind of business. We are not going to make any excuses," Murphy said. "Barring injuries and with a bit of luck you never know how far we can go."

Marc Murphy.

Simpson. I also like Jeremias' suggestion but I'd have Waite over Smurf.

Was between Murph and Waitey for that VC position.

I gave Murph the nod because of Waite and his injury.

I'd prefer Waite to focus solely on his recovery and getting back to his best without the added pressures of being a vice captain.

He does however bleed Navy Blue so it wouldn't surprise me if he got the nod and I'd be all for him being named a VC in the coming years but I think he'll have other things to focus on in 2010.

Simpson for mine as well. He's relished the gig when given a go in the past.

Plus he has seniority.

Murphy, Waite, Thornton in the leadership group. (Seniority + 1 forward, 1 Back and 1 Mid)

Simpson will get it, sharing or not.
Look at the Saints game, he was what sparked us into the game. He also played well while he was captain for a few games a while back (2007?)

And he was the only one who offered any signs of encouragement while the players went down to the race at half time vs Hawthorn in the same year.

Simpson is a no-brainer for mine, in fact I wanted him to be captain ahead of Judd.

Simpson.

The guy takes his game up a notch with the added responsibility & leads well. Was very impressed with him when he was captain in parts of 2007.

We could do worse than to offer Brock the VC if Gibbs and Murph arent keen just yet.

We could be the first club to have both its Captain and VC be appointed into those positions prior to even playing for us.

Simmo all the way for VC, dont be fooled by the persona in the media (very shy) behind closed doors he's the real leader and motivator of the group, Judd doesnt say boo...Simmo is the spiritual leader of the group even moreso now with Stevo gone.

Thornton, Carrots, Waite, Simpson. The number 1s still have 10+ years left in them, so no rush to force it upon them.

I'm amazed how many people say that Thornton "Is our backline general" yet still pass him over for a spot in the leadership group.
