Ever since we made modifications to our weight program I was really interested to see how long it will take until we can notice the difference. From all reports so far it is working beautifully.

Biglands looks bigger than last season. Bock and Hentschel have put on 5 kg in the pre-season and Fergus Watts was just on 5AA and said that he has put on 4 kg since he came over. In the last few years we would have been lucky if a player put on 4 kg in a whole year let alone in a couple of months. Our younger players are having 4 weight session a week with emphasis being on getting beefed up rather than aerobic as was the case in previous years.

With this sort of training programs we can expect our youngsters to have AFL ready bodies by the start of next season.

Some other things from Watts interview:

* He suffered a slight strain of achillies tendon which will set him back a bit in his gaol to play some Wizard Cup games.

* He is loving it in Adelaide and has settled in very well.

* He is living with Johncock and Parker and is planning to study Human Movement at UNISA.

* He wants to play a few games this season and will use his 1st 2 years at the club as development years where he will pick brains of our more experienced player.

* Carey has already been of big help in teching him how to use his body in marking contests to get his opponent off balance.

Overall it was a very interesting interview and Watts sound like a great fella.

P.S. Bassett was on yesterday and gave big wraps to Hudson, McGregor and Skipworth. He reckons Skippy will surprise a lot of people and will play quite a few games and probably doesn't get the hype that some of the other youngsters get. Hudson splits packs and will really push our 2 ruckman for a spot in best 22 and McGregor is very underrated.

Rhett certainly looks a bit bigger in the pic in the Sunday Mail.

In the same pic, Hudson is a very solidly built unit. And he can also keep his eyes on the ball in a marking contest!

A back up ruckman with some physical strength and can mark, hey thats a huge step up from our previous back up. I like him already.

Wasn't I saying all along we couldn't possibly be worse off for a backup ruckman!

Thanks for the update on Watts Stiffy. I just can't believe that we got lucky enough to get a player of his potential at #14. He's a quality young man and a star of the future.

McGregor's not under-rated by me - I had him in the top 9 when rating our entire squad. He's as good a CHB as there is in the league, and has been for nearly 2 seasons now.

While unlikely to be in our best 22, Skippy will get games when injuries permit and won't disgrace himself when he does get a chance. I don't think he did either with the limited chances he did have last season.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Hudson in action next Friday as he seems to be making good progress now in adjusting to the quicker tempo. He does have ability.

Skippy is an interesting one. If he keeps playing well, could he replace Bode or Ladhams if either have another sub-standard year? More players performing the better to keep pressure on those in the team.

Think more likely to replace Bode, but having said that Bode's best is very good to the point of being a certain starter. But his games, particularly coming off injury, or with injury is very ordinary.
My money is still with Schuback, Ladhams, Stiffy, Shirley b4 Skippy.
But congratulations to him because he's giving it his best shot, won't leave the game wondering, and with some luck...?

I think 2004 is the year of the Bodester:D

What screwed him around last year was rotation with Bickley. I am still amazed by his 1st 6 weeks of 2003 season. He was just sensational especially in pack situations.

Correct, young Stiffmeister.

Bodey started the year well and fell away as he had less and less game time. He was virtually played out of form.

If Ayres gives Bodey first crack at each game, it could well be the year of the Bodester.

Whilst it is true Bode wasn't favoured my the rotations, he didn't do himself many favours either. I expect a far better year from him too, because I reckon if he has a poor one, he is likely to be traded.

Does this mean that he wont be playing in the trial game? :(

Good to hear he has settled in, wont be homesick now! :D

And living with Parks and Stiffy? Argh! poor bloke, those guys don't know the meaning of cleaning up!! :(

We'll give you a third round pick for him.

Stiffy do you know if its possible to listen to 5AA interviews on the net? Living in Queensland makes it hard to hear anything about AFL this time of year.

No you can't. 5AA used to have an on-line service, but not anymore.

The best on-line sports show that I know of is 3AW between 6pm and 8 pm Victorian time. Naturally it concentrates on the Melbourne based teams though. It's still a good show though.

Living in Melbourne its impossible to get Crows info. 5AA should realise it has an internet audience if it wants to get with media coverage "in this century"

3aw online coverage is great - weekdays 6.00 - 8.00pm
New Sen 1116, 24 hour sport is just as good, not online yet, but appears will be available online B4 5AA.

Not yet mate. They used to have it but they modernised their site a bit and they are yet to have interent broadcast. I think its on the cards but I wouldn't have a clue when it will be available.

I emailed them last year, the reply I received said they have no immediate plans to provide an on-line service.
