New Year Predictions?

Is that right Upwey Fan and Monniehawk? Do all the players play for the love of the jumper or come to your clubs because of the culture and facilities. Although I must say its a fair old bar at Upwey, not sure about the log cabin at Monbulk, but it would be a safer bet being in Monbulks home rooms rather than the away rooms. You wouldn't want to be in there with a cut on your body, straight off to hospital to fight off the infection.

Very fair call in regard to Monbulks away rooms only way to describe it is a sess pool. Rates as among the worse along with Wandin and Mt Evelyn.

Just ask them!!!!

This is sweet being compared to Upwey & Woori - We are honoured! Finally we are in the big 3!
On the away rooms - fella's can you formally put something in writing to our club - check our website for email details. We need your help with the council to get them to wake up on this. Showers & toilets need a huge overhaul.
FYI Log Cabin is a great spot for a beer after the game but is on its last legs & we have a redevelopment fund going - so please donate ladies & gents. Have a look next time you are in there, the plans are on the wall above the Fire.
Yes most of you are right our home room setup is 2nd to none & does attract players over others (happy to show folk through on match day - just ask me). We have Change room, Showers / Toielts at the back, dedicated huge Gym & medical room at the front. Then upstairs is the meeting room used for pre match game / player meetings.
Maybe as Mick Kerrigan puts it "The Vibe" is what attracts players to these clubs.....
Lastly if I was just thinking with my coaches hat on - I'd ay stuff the opposition - if they hate coming to Moores Rd cos the rooms, slope of the ground etc, GOOD - maybe half the battle is won. Its about looking after our team not the opposition!
I know half the guys were beaten each time we went to Upwey's sess pit in the early / mid 90's

Change of coach at Kinglake FNC with Michael Nott resigning and Brent Gallachio taking over! Nott did a fantastic job last year after a disrupted start due to Black Saturday and will be sorely missed.

Apparently the Lakers have recruited very well again too.

I've got a feeling that may have been on the cards for a while. Notty did a huge job last year but was under the pump away from footy as well. Sounds like something had to give and it did.
The Gooch will do fine and Kinglake will still be one of the top 2-3

Strike! Just panned through my posts trying to find where I said anything like that, or belittled any other club as the Duke suggests! Can´t see anything...
As for the visitors rooms.... a shocker and Cagga has called for written formal complaints. We have been trying to get some council action for years and letters of complaint will help our case. The toilets have been an ongoing problem also, with the septic system patently inadequate. Send in those letters!!
PS Currently in Patagonia after a trip to Antarctica and sweltering now in 14 degree heat at El Calafate. Missed the earthquake, but will need Santiago to get home. A lot of psychological damage to the area as well as physical.

Instead of waiting for handouts why doesnt the club do somthing about it themselves.

The club has committed a lot recently with the new change rooms complex, watering system, Log Cabin upgrades, etc, but these other problems are basically Council maintenance backlogs. We have been negotiating for years for them to fulfill their maintenance requirements and the toilet system is a public health issue. The club (to my knowledge) has been keen to cooperate with council to help resolve the problems for the benefit of members and guests. Can´t do much more.

Apologies, Duke!
It was actually a comment from Cheesehead (he had inserted another quote from you and I wrongly attributed the ´belittling´ one as yours).
Peace, bro....

We have & we will continue to on our limited budget. Half way through last year it was cleaned & painted thoroughly. That improved it to some degree. Hygeine is our main concern & soap is now provided but the other issue is the plumbing & wet areas. We started by upgrading our Hot water services (the old still ran hot but storage was an issue for the umpires rooms). We paid for all of this not the council.
The budget limited - because the council in their great wisdom decided to put in the bore, tank and irrigation - which is great im not complaining but they asked the tennants to raise 30K. This means obviously other areas get the short straw - only for the time being.
We are trying to raise the money which ever way possible, grants etc & your letters add weight to our case in being proactive.

Try out in country Vic there are plenty of hot water services cheap! So short straw goes to the opposition, you had plenty of money to build your new rooms, Its OK to cry poor now but surely even a little could have gone to the away rooms when you rebuilt.

Cheese Head, the hot water system was replaced by the club a while back, so not an issue now. But the plumbing and drains are! They are60 years old and have been the subject of discussions (and copious promises!) with Council for some time. I repeat, those issues are Council maintenance responsibilities - just as they are at your own club - so we aren't 'crying poor'!
The visitors rooms is fair game, though! We actually ran a bit short on the change rooms redevelopment in 2000, and I think it is fair to say it has been neglected by the club in favour of more pressing issues. Some much-needed maintenance was done by members during last year, but they are still too cramped and the plumbing is grossly inadequate. The club is concerned about it and will do what it can, I guess.

Never bothered me there MH,
hot water and can in hand (fanta maybe) and that'll do me. Its just a shower for god sake !

Ah yes, TeeS! It's the simple things in life.... that are always the best!
Now, back on topic.
The clearance issues are starting to take some shape, so:
Upwey have talent to burn and must be runaway favourites, despite a static recruiting period.
Woori has depth and a very stable squad. Hard to see them out of it.
Monbulk might find that height and age could become problems.
Mt Evelyn have gained and lost, but some of their main contributors are a year older now.
Healesville farewelled a few, but are now making recruiting moves, and last year's young squad has that extra experience.
Gembrook have been more circumspect about their chances this year. Some good ins could continue the momentum of late last season.
Warby were pretty unlucky at times last season. They have lost more players than they gained, but still have good all round strength. Probably need a few more, though.
Silvan may not have the big names of recent times, but have still put together an impressive list. Ultimately, lack of depth may haunt them, but they proved they are far from flat-lining as some predicted/hoped.
Wandin seem destined to be whipping boys this year in stark contrast to their recent history. The Doggies will have a hard road for a little while.
Olinda come back with more belief in themselves and big momentum as a club. Some talented youngsters could make their presence felt, making Div 2 a distant memory.

CH you misunderstood what I wrote. Sorry when I said OUR showers were upgraded - I meant the entire building, Visitors, Umpires & home showers - this happen last season. Maybe those Hot water services we see now came from country vic - they are lovely and hot.
Let me know which round you are coming & I will show you around.
MH has spelt it out the plumbing and especially an old elm tree seem to be a large problem. CH can you chop it down but dont tell the greenies in the hills... That would be super handy, then we can go back, up & get the roots out of storm water.

To any Melbourne based players.....

Anyone who is currently living/working in melbourne, playing in the Gv/ O&M etc etc and need a venue or a group to train with, please PM me with your details.

Anyone is welcome.

Cheers

a/. Gembrook / Yarra Glen
b/. tough one - ladder not much different from 2009
c/. Mark Reilly back to Healesville / Ricky Hay & Attard to Yarra Glen
d/. Woori / Kinglake/Yarra Glen
e/. Wandin / Belgrave

Just looked at a post of mine from a few months back. It is amazing that so much can happen in the off season! I would have to retract by Belgrave for wooden spooners quote. They have recruited than many players it isnt funny. Great effort considering they dont even have a ground this year. What is the incentive? Fee passes for the family to Puffin Billy? With all the ins I was surprised to see D Bilston out??? He would have to be one of the leagues better players. Mark Reilly no longer in Victoria so bad luck for Healesville however Healesville have now recruited a few handy players and now have a stronger list than 2009 not to mention a fitter group so they will scare a few teams especially on the big ground. Also saw a decent game at Healesville on the weekend between the Pigs and Coldy. I think both teams will go well in their leagues. It was a fairly even affair with both teams showing good signs.
2 sleeps to go to first AFL game - you beauty - The girlfriend wont be so happy!

Thanks for the invite Cagga but I think I might wander down the hill a bit this season and watch some EFL. Have been watching Divvy 1 in the YV for the last few years and I must admit not many games are getting me too excited this season. My thoughts are there is a big gap between the top 3 and the rest. Maybe there when you play either Woori or Upwey. As for the tree, drill a hole in it and fill the hole with poison, making sure the hole is not visible or easy to find
