With Schoen does that make Brian Daboll the favorite for the job since they both were at bills together ?

John Mara: We’ve done everything possible to screw Daniel Jones up, haven’t given up on him

Posted by Josh Alper on January 26, 2022, 2:15 PM EST

Giants General Manager Joe Schoen suggested the team will be sticking with quarterback Daniel Jones and team co-owner John Mara echoed that sentiment when he spoke with reporters after Schoen’s introductory press conference.

Mara said that the team will not be trading for Deshaun Watson while also saying that the team has done a poor job of supporting Jones since he arrived in the first round of the 2019 draft. Jones has played for multiple head coaches and offensive coordinators in his three seasons and former G.M. Dave Gettleman did more talking about fixing the offensive line than fixing the offensive line.

“We’ve done everything possible to screw this kid up since he’s been here. . . . We certainly have not given up on Daniel Jones,” Mara said, via Ralph Vacchiano of SNY.

Schoen touched on the offensive line issues in an interview with Vacchiano by saying “if you want to see Daniel Jones put his best foot forward, he’s got to be on his feet.” As the Giants have learned, however, correcting the problem takes more than just the desire to do it.

Joe Schoen: Saquon Barkley was a “rare talent” entering NFL, excited about having him

Posted by Josh Alper on January 26, 2022, 4:42 PM EST

Giants General Manager Joe Schoen backed the team’s 2019 first-round pick at a Wednesday press conference when he said the team will build its offense around quarterback Daniel Jones.

Schoen backed their 2018 first-round pick as well. Running back Saquon Barkley never recovered his form this season after returning from a 2020 torn ACL, but Schoen said he feels good about Barkley heading into next season and that he thinks improvements elsewhere would help the back get his groove back.

“He was in the locker room yesterday, so I got to have a good conversation with him,” Schoen said, via SNY.tv. “I’m excited about Saquon. When he came out, he was a rare talent. I know he’s had some injuries, and that comes with that position. We talked a little bit about where we may need to upgrade. I think if you upgrade the offensive line, that’s gonna help Daniel [Jones]and it’s gonna help Saquon.”

Schoen’s predecessor picked up Barkley’s fifth-year option, so he has a guaranteed salary of just over $7.2 million for next season. It seems unlikely that Schoen would make any move to extend that commitment without seeing further reason to be excited about what a sixth season with Barkley would mean for the Giants.

Speaking Wednesday, Giants owner John Mara told reporters "we're not trading for Deshaun Watson."

The Giants are in a tough situation with the salary cap as it is, and adding Watson would be an implausible move from a financial standpoint alone. Watson's legal issues obviously compound the difficulties in making any trade work, particularly to a cap-strapped franchise. Watson still seems likely to be elsewhere in 2021, but he won't be in New York.

New Giants GM Joe Schoen: I say ‘data innovation’ instead of ‘analytics,’ but I believe in it

Posted by Michael David Smith on January 27, 2022, 12:09 PM EST

New Giants General Manager Joe Schoen is a believer in analytics, even if he doesn’t necessarily like the term.

Schoen said he thinks the term “analytics” is starting to carry some baggage, but the principles of analytics are sound, and that the Giants will attempt to be forward-thinking on that front.

“I think we use ‘data innovation’ here instead of ‘analytics’ since it is a hot button,” Schoen said. “But I believe in it. Any tool that can help us win games or give us a competitive advantage, we’re going to continue to push the envelope and find out what those are. To me, if it’s going to help us in the draft process with the evaluations or the free agency process with the evaluations or contract value and who do these players compare to, if it’s going to help us with our practice schedule to keep guys healthy, keep guys on the field, if guys are running too much or working too hard or there are signs you have to be open-minded to the information. It’s a piece of the puzzle. It’s not going to drive the entire process, but it’s another tool that we need to use in order to get whatever competitive advantage we can and make the best decisions we can for the New York Giants.

The Giants have not yet hired their next head coach, but Schoen indicated that he’d like it to be someone who has followed the analytics on fourth down aggressiveness.

“I think intelligence is important. I think being progressive in your approach to coaching, whether it’s with analytics, when to go, when not to go, when to punt. I think you’ve got be open to all that stuff,” Schoen said.

For a Giants franchise that has finished five straight seasons with a losing record, Schoen is looking for a fresh approach.

iants hired Bills OC Brian Daboll as head coach.

With the Dolphins also intensely interested in Daboll's services, the Giants swooped in before Daboll could make it to Miami for a second interview. Although Daboll is also a Bill Belichick protege, he is the polar opposite of the man he is replacing, Joe Judge. An offensive mind, Daboll has earned praise for his flexibility and reinvention, whereas Judge seemed stuck in the 1950s. Daboll has also worked for Nick Saban, and seemed to apply all the lessons he learned from the two masters after arriving in Buffalo in 2018 after winding his way back up the coaching ladder following a series of failed NFL coordinator stints for failed head coaches, including Tony Sparano in Miami in 2011. The elephant in the room will be whether Daboll can coax a fourth-year breakout from Daniel Jones the way he did from Josh Allen in Year 3. It's not likely — despite being an excellent athlete, Jones' physical gifts are nowhere near Allen's — but Daboll is the kind of hire this adrift organization desperately needed to make. It's a good day in East Rutherford.

Giants owner John Mara said the team's medical staff has "every confidence" Daniel Jones' neck injury won't be a long-term issue.

Mara, during new head coach Brian Daboll's introductory press conference, dismissed the neck injury -- which sidelined Jones for the season's final six weeks -- as a problem that won't affect the QB in 2022 and beyond. First labeled a neck strain, Jones' injury was far more serious and kept him from practicing for a month and a half in another lost season for New York. With an entire offseason to rehab, Jones should be fine for the start of the 2022 season.

Brian Daboll undecided on calling offensive plays

Posted by Josh Alper on January 31, 2022, 11:21 AM EST

Brian Daboll’s work calling offensive plays for the Bills helped land him the Giants head coaching job, but he may not continue to handle that role with his new team.

Daboll said at his introductory press conference on Monday that he has not made a decision about whether he will call the offensive plays when the Giants take the field next season. He said that any call will wait until the team has hired an offensive coordinator.

In comments to reporters after the press conference, General Manager Joe Schoen said that his preference would be that Daboll manages the game while someone else handles the offensive play-calling duties. He added that the final decision will be made by Daboll, so the identity of the offensive coordinator may be telling about which direction the coach chooses to follow.

One name that has come up on that front is Bills quarterbacks coach/passing game coordinator Ken Dorsey, who may also be a candidate to replace Daboll as the coordinator in Buffalo.

Report: Bobby Johnson leaving Bills for Giants

Posted by Charean Williams on January 31, 2022, 9:06 PM EST

Bills offensive line coach Bobby Johnson is leaving for the Giants, Mike Silver of Bally Sports reports.
Johnson will take the same role with the Giants.

He joins General Manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll in leaving the Bills for the Giants.

Johnson spent 2010-11 with the Bills and rejoined the team in 2019. He also has spent time with the Colts, Raiders, Lions and Jaguars.

The Giants have shown interest in making Bills quarterbacks coach/passing game coordinator Ken Dorsey their offensive coordinator. Bills assistant quarterbacks coach Shea Tierney and assistant offensive line coach Ryan Wendell also could follow Daboll to New York, according to Ryan Talbot of nyup.com.

Not a great look for the Mara & co - but based off everything that's been released so far I'm not sure how Giants will have a case to answer. Unless it can be proved officially that they offered Daboll the job prior to the Flores interview then they haven't 'technically' done anything wrong (as messed upas that is).

Mara has already come out and said that Flores was in serious consideration, but everyone knew Daboll was Schoen's guy from the start.

Giants are expected to retain special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey

Posted by Josh Alper on February 1, 2022, 4:20 PM EST

The Giants hope to bring defensive coordinator Patrick Graham back for another season and it looks like they will be holding onto special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey.

Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports that McGaughey is expected to remain in the organization as a member of new head coach Brian Daboll’s first coaching staff. That would make three straight Giants coaches that McGaughey has worked for as he initially took his current job when Pat Shurmur was in Daboll’s spot.

McGaughey interviewed with the Panthers, Chargers, and Bears about their special teams coordinator openings last month, but didn’t take another job and that appears to have worked out well for the Giants.
Daboll said on Monday that he wants Graham to remain with the team if he does not land the head coaching job in Minnesota. If he does stick around, there will be a good deal of carryover from Joe Judge’s staff to the new one.

No different to Ziegler and McDaniels really, other than LV conducted other HC interviews first luckily.

Thanks for posting these news articles matey.

Why is Bellichek's word gospel? Hell of a lot of innuendo there. If anything any blame is with the NFL for needing clubs to interview minority candidates. I'm sure it's frustrating if you being interviewed with no chance of actually getting the employment but if things that's the case here it seems like he has a pretty poor opinion of himself.
