Sam Darnold faced the highest pressure rate of any quarterback in the NFL this season.
Darnold was under pressure on 43.3 percent of his drop backs this year, according to Pro Football Focus. Ben Roethlisberger, meanwhile, faced pressure on 20.9 percent of his drop backs, the lowest rate in the league. Behind a porous offensive line, Darnold was constantly on the run in his 11 starts. He completed 44.9 percent of his passes while under pressure, the eighth lowest mark in the NFL. Having time to operate in the pocket will be key for Darnold wherever he plays next.

Jets hired 49ers DC Robert Saleh as head coach.
Josina Anderson broke the news. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports it's a five-year deal. An ex-linebackers coach who spent the past four seasons as Kyle Shanahan's defensive coordinator, Saleh rocketed to prominence with his 2019 unit, a group that nearly snagged the Niners a Super Bowl with Jimmy Garoppolo at the controls. They were arguably equally impressive in 2020, finishing fifth in defensive DVOA despite a biblical wave of injuries. Well known for his boundless energy, Saleh profiles as a "leader of men" who can handle his side of the ball. It's an excellent hire for a typically-downtrodden organization coming off one of the worst seasons in franchise history. It will not be a quick rebuild, and Gang Green will likely have to be willing to put up with 2-3 losing campaigns from its new head coach, much like San Francisco did with Saleh's now ex-boss Shanahan.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports new Jets coach Robert Saleh is expected to hire 49ers passing-game coordinator Mike LaFleur as his offensive coordinator.
Saleh apparently doesn't have qualms about raiding now ex-boss Kyle Shanahan's cupboard. Matt's brother, this will be a big step up for LaFleur, as Shanahan ultimately runs his own show on offense. Only 33 (or 34, depending on the source) years old, LaFleur has been working with Shanahan since 2014 in Cleveland. Learning from his brother and Shanahan will be an excellent prep school for a young coordinator inheriting a broken offense. Aside from a world-class building block in LT Mekhi Becton, the Jets have questions at nearly every position on LaFleur's side of the ball.

Really good hire, Im usually pretty "wait and see" on most coaches but this one feels good.

Saleh's performance this year with a massively banged up defense was impressive, he 100% looks to be a great leader and communicator, players love him. All qualities the opposite of Gase.

Now draft my boy Zach Wilson at #2 and the Jets are all of a sudden well and truly on the right path.

I'm excitedly optimistic about this team.

ESPN's Rich Cimini reports new Jets coach Robert Saleh and "presumptive" OC Mike LaFleur believe Sam Darnold still has "untapped potential."
They apparently came to the conclusion after watching "a lot" of tape. If Darnold has potential, it certainly remains untapped. What to do at quarterback is now the biggest decision facing the Jets after they un-tanked out of position for Clemson's Trevor Lawrence. Trading for Deshaun Watson is almost certainly on the table. There's no question that the coaching Darnold has received has nowhere to go but up.

ESPN's Rich Cimini reports ex-Jaguars LB Paul Posluszny could join Robert Saleh's staff with the Jets.
Posluszny was apparently a "Saleh favorite" when the two overlapped in Jacksonville. Saleh was Posluszny's position coach from 2014-16. Still only 36 years old, Posluszny retired following an 11-year career in 2018. It's unclear what his staff position in New York would be.

A jets Watson jersey would look good in my closet too.

Hearing a fair bit about this lately, along with some cryptic tweets from Watson about being in New Jersey the past couple of days and him wanting Saleh as the Texans coach... Where there is smoke there is fire.

Jets hired 49ers passing-game coordinator Mike LaFleur as offensive coordinator.
New Jets coach Robert Saleh is also poaching 49ers OL coach John Benton and making him running-game coordinator. Saleh attempted another Niners hire or two, and was not shy about raiding former boss Kyle Shanahan's staff. Different teams have different feelings on that. Matt's brother, this will be a big step up for LaFleur, as Shanahan runs his own show. LaFleur has been working with Shanahan since 2014 in Cleveland. Learning from his brother and Shanahan provides an excellent foundation for a young (33) coordinator inheriting a broken, quarterback-less offense. LaFleur does have a world-class building block in LT Mekhi Becton, answering his second most vexing question.

Jets hired Falcons LBs coach Jeff Ulbrich as defensive coordinator.
Surprisingly, Ulbrich, and not new head coach Robert Saleh, will call plays on defense in 2021. An NFL player as recently as 2009, Ulbrich had never coordinator a defense until being named the Falcons' interim 2020 man following the firing of Dan Quinn. It is unclear if Ulbrich or interim coach Raheem Morris called plays. Despite supposedly handing over the reins, Saleh figures to remain intimately involved in game-planning and in-game strategy, giving Ulbrich some leeway as he learns the ropes of leading a defense. He isn't going to have much talent to work with in 2021.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh said he won't call defensive plays for the team.
New Jets defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich -- who served as Atlanta's defensive coordinator in 2020 -- will call defensive plays for New York this year. It's a bit of a surprise for a seemingly hands-on coach like Saleh, but apparently he'll focus on bigger picture elements while Ulbrich calls the plays.

Jets wanted a managerial head coach to oversee the entire operation, so this makes perfect sense.

If it all went to sh*t Saleh could easily just take over anyway if required.

Jets owner Woody Johnson has been recalled as the Ambassador of the United States to the Court of St James's and will resume running the team.
With the change in administrations, Johnson is back to his old job. In the Trump Administration for nearly four years, the only time we really heard of Johnson was when he was investigated for alleged racist and sexist remarks by the State Department. He was found to have "sometimes made inappropriate or insensitive comments on topics ... such as religion, sex, or color" that could "create an offensive working environment," though he predictably denied the findings. Johnson also got caught up in a controversy with one of President Trump's U.K. golf courses. Unsurprisingly, his team went further down the drain during his absence, though Johnson's brother and GM Joe Douglas have just made a home run head-coaching hire in Robert Saleh. 73 years old, Johnson has owned the Jets since 2000.

Jets hired Miles Austin as WRs coach.
An offensive quality control coach, Austin worked alongside Saleh with the 49ers in 2019 before spending 2020 out of the league. Still only 36 years old, Austin will provide a recent perspective to a promising but unproven Jets receiver corps, one highlighted by second-year pro Denzel Mims. Ausin experienced some high highs and low lows during his 10-year career, seeing it all as a Pro Bowler and chronic injury sufferer.

The Jets are Deshaun Watson's preferred trade partner.
The rightfully disgruntled franchise QB prefers the Jets "because they hired Robert Saleh to be their coach and Watson values Saleh so much he wanted the Texans to interview him for their vacant head coach job," according to the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero. The Dolphins, per Salguero, rank second on Watson's trade wish list. Recent reports out of Houston indicate it's a matter of when -- not if -- Watson is dealt away after the team's string of management mishaps that alienated the cornerstone of the franchise. Saleh has been complimentary of Sam Darnold, lauding the QB's "unbelievable arm talent," but has stopped short of naming him the Jets' 2021 starter. Darnold's shot at the starting gig would vanish the minute Watson is dealt to New York. Watson -- who has yet to officially request a trade -- would be a giant upgrade for all Jets pass catchers, including Jamison Crowder, Chris Herndon, and Denzel Mims,

Not really sure how to feel about Watson - obviously he's a massive upgrade on Darnold but don't have any idea about Fields. The draft picks we would have to give up for him mean we can't address the other holes in the roster but then draft picks are probably only 50% strike rate anyway.

Will be interesting to see how it all plays out, I wouldn't want him on the Dolphins, the Bills are already a strong opponent in the AFCE and the Pats surely won't be down too long under Belichick.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports multiple teams have reached out to the Jets about trading for QB Sam Darnold.
The Jets hold the second pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and are nearly certain to be eying a quarterback, likely Ohio State's Justin Fields or BYU's Zach Wilson. That means that Darnold will have no more value than any other high-end backup passer once day one of the draft concludes. Other teams clearly recognize this and are likely trying to scoop up a project quarterback for pennies on the dollar. Darnold will only be 24 years old a the start of the 2021 season and was set up for failure in New York. His play also expedited the process as he averaged just 6.6 yards per attempt across three seasons. Schefter previously reported that Darnold will cost teams a late first-round pick and there will likely be a team who is willing to gamble on Darnold for that price.

Just like Miami I don't think Golladay is a good fit at the Jets when they have Mims. Need a speed receiver opposite. Will Fuller maybe? Rolling the dice with him though, so injury prone but very good when he plays.

Edit: Curtis Samuel would be a nice fit actually.

I reckon Joe Thuney is almost a lock to end up here also.

Jets sign Keelan Cole, he is a bit of an enigma, can do some remarkable things but then goes missing for periods. Still, I like the signing if the money isn't too much. Nice depth piece with upside.
