I think we are all half expecting it apollo but they generally don't rely on BS goals just to make the WC.

Cop that Verbeek you dumb ****. Here's a team of a-league players who have put your coaching efforts to shame.
Actually the New Zealand team basically had the same amount of A-League players that we did.

Paston, Bertos, Lochhead, Smeltz. The rest played overseas, except for one who is actually playing in New Zealand

We had Culina, Moore (only just left the A-League in January and will probably be back next season), Beauchamp may play next game and a guy like Ruka who only left over a year or so ago.

But yes I know what you mean.

France lifts for major tournaments and always seem to start slow in the group stages.

No part of that pattern has changed here.

He'll start Malouda next game - and he should drop Gourcuff. Pushing Ribery back a little.

They have an experienced team that will improve and will be dangerous. Just you wait and see.
agreed ... although I still haven't forgiven them for Euro2008. paying $16 to win the tournament and didn't score a goal for the entire tournament. *sigh*

France has a decent run through - likely meeting England in the quarters, and if they win that I think that puts them into a semi against what will probably be Italy or Brazil.

I'm not an Australian fan, but to be fair, Slovakia aren't exactly the pinnacle of World Football. They have a decent defender, and a world class midfielder who didn't show up, and that's about it.

My mighty Deutschland has top class players all over the pitch, on the bench, and a lot that didn't even get near the squad.

I think the fallout from the (awesome :p) 4-0 drubbing has been a bit harsh, really. People overrate this collection of Australian players something chronic.

I mean, most people still think Lucas Neill is good. He was downright awful for West Ham, downright awful for Everton, and that's why he got shipped off at the first opportunity to Turkey.

Not to mention one of the Australian first choice defenders is clubless, and looked utterly garbage, even in the A-League, at the end of his Roar tenure. So what was he going to be like against quality players like Klose, Podolski, Cacau, Ozil and company?

Australia aren't good enough to even get into a game with countries like Germany, Spain. and Brazil.

I wouldn't be surprised if Verbeek realised this, and just saved the more important players for the marginally easier games.
At last someone who knows what they are talking about in this thread. Christ NZ played a run of the mill team and even they didnt turn up and NZ really should have lost except for about the last 2-5 mins.... Whilst Italy dont go for big scores like a Germany or Spain and rarely ever have (even through winning their 4 cups) they will be more of the quality Australia faced in game 1... How about waiting till then before the NZ>Aus bull$.it comments...Heck Australia played the worst game ive seen them play ever against NZ in the warmups and still beat NZ, Just wish we had NZ and Slovakia in our group

When are people gonna realise Ricki Herbert is the best coach in the A-League and a complete gun at what he does? He spotted Slovakias weakness and hammered it all game. Long balls into the box with Skrtel dragged out of it by Smeltz and co. Weiss was a knob all game in not figuring this out and especially after going 1-0 up not throwing more height down back and getting Skrtel a more free role down back to mop up.

Everyone will disagree but if i was the FFA Id have Ricki Herbert as number 1 on my list to replace Pim. I mean look at what he did for Wellington Phoenix. A nothing club became top shit last year. Paul Ifil was completely transformed into a different player under Herberts tutorlage. The guy knows what hes doing,

New Zealand didnt win the game of football. Ricki Herbert did

He didn't do a very thorough job then.

Hey the way I see it, If you celebrate it like a win its a win. The great thing about football. A draw can feel like a win at times. Dont tell me any New Zealand player or person would not have exeprienced a winning feeling after that result

Oh you're completely right. Or if you're North Korean, you celebrate a consolation goal like a win :thumbsu:

You're kidding me New Zealand had absolutely no idea going foward. From the 55th minute till the 85th minute had no idea how to turn defence into attack. The fact is Slovakia choked and New Zealand could have had 2 goals in 5 minutes had Smeltz converted. However one thing New Zealand did impress with was their defensive attitute and structure which was first class. But their transition play was non existent, until the last 5 minutes. Reed and Elliott were the standouts.

However I do agree that Australia need to put in more crosses particulary from the point where New Zealand snagged their first WC goal.
Congratulations New Zealand!!!

"How dare the Aussies take credit for our win," he wrote. "That we had a fantastic moment of glory for them to piggy-back off is unacceptable."
