MRP / Trib. Newcombe hit on Howe

It wasn't the tackle that left him concussed,

It was his head hitting the ground after the collision.

If Howe had been able to brace his fall (which Newcombe didn't prevent - there was no pinning of the arms etc) then he wouldn't have been concussed.

I guarantee Newcombe won't get suspended for that.

This is an extraordinarily stupid argument.

Despite all the 'iT's a tOuGh gAmE' nuffies trying to play armchair defence lawyer, the reality is that his eyes are on Howe well before contact is made, not the ball, which is the crucial factor here.

If you make deliberate contact with the opposition player, then you are responsible for the outcome.

You may not like that simple concept, but it remains a simple concept.

Now, that doesn't mean he won't get let off as the MRP and tribunal are inconsistent clown shows.
Oh so your opinion is the only possible correct one even when the outcome is the opposite.

You keep saying things like "its simple" and "this is a stupid argument"

but you're completely wrong.

It's simple - but not in the way that you're thinking it's simple. It's simple in that Howe collided with Newcombe and was knocked out when his head hit the ground.

You're holding Newcombe responsible for Howe's head hitting the ground when the two players had a head clash while being completely upright. That's the stupid bit.

Rich coming from the:

Guy.

You can’t even keep your argument straight.
Yes.

Please note, my comment was 'Lots of Hawks supporters', as opposed to 'Lots of Hawks supporters told us LOTS of times', and your big gotcha was 'But there were only two Hawks supporters who posted in that thread on more than 10 occasions'....

Comprehension is important. (Though obviously not a high priority for you).

OK, so it’s pretty clear you have no idea what you’re talking about.

How the hell do you go low, but not lead with your head when tackling? 😂

I think you should sit this one out, buddy.

Well you actually hit with your shoulder first, otherwise you'd end up in a neck brace pretty quickly.

As a "moderator" I think you're the one who should be sitting it out.

Why is this thread even titled "Newcombe hit on..."

If you'd like to hand in your aussie rules card now and move on to a different sport that's fine folks. I'll add it to the bonfire that's currently fueled by Collingwoods premiership aspirations.
Its how both Hawks and Pies called it in the game day thread (so did the commentators, but no one gaf what they say or think), so seems fair.

Howe ran at the ball, saw Newcombe and ran through the space where Newcombe would arrive. Newcombe ran at Howe, then adjusted his run to meet both Howe and the ball.

Both players showed great courage and tried to bust through the other. If Newcombe was a dog he would have put some body part through Howe's skull. Instead he behaved utterly professionally and was very lucky he didn't hurt himself badly in his attempt to manage the clash fairly. He's entitled to meet an opponents body and contest the ball, as is Howe.

A hairsplitter might say Howe was a touch reckless: any contest is. He was tracking the ball first and foremost, it would have been unacceptable in a footballing sense for either player to pull out.

As for our premiership bonfire, its not our first dance in the fire. We were apparently done in round 0 or whatever the geniuses at the funhouse call it. We beat Brisbane (who wer off a 5 day break) up there, which apparently spelled The End for them according to chinstrokers. Give it a week and it will be some other mob deathspiralling.

I'm still on Brisbane for the flag, with Pies and Cats lurking. We're just lurking a bit harder than usual.

If he had eyes on Howe, meaning the subsequent contact was potentially premeditated, why ON EARTH would the contact end up being with his face?

Who would risk a concussion by leading with their head intentionally?

Of course he's allowed to notice the player and make any adjustment (legal or illegal) that he sees fit in order to contest the ball in that moment.
Unfortunately, and purely accidentally, they clashed heads during the impact of the tackle attempt. One came off worse than the other, and it could have quite easily been the other way around.

Hopefully Duke isn't punished for being made of pure granite.

Yes.

Nope. You’ve made the claim. Back up the “lots of haws supporters”
You wont
Because you cant.
Because it was entirely hyperbole.
Feel free to google the word to aid your comprehension.

May should've got 0, he got 3.
Duke should get 0, but due to the above, will get 3.
Greg Swann to come in over the off-season and run a broom through the joint
