Sad to read that another tourist has been gang raped in India.

Hang them high.
That's just horrendous.

IIRC, Indian laws relating to sexual offences were amended following the gang rape of the student in Delhi in 2012, with harsher penalties and a broader range of offences made punishable. Hasn't seemed to have acted as a deterrent, although I guess it's difficult to tell with cases such as the above drawing more global attention (which I blindly hope somehow brings about a change) in reacent times.

Really hate having to do it, as I don't like being "afraid" in places I visit, but I've changed my travel plans for my next trip to India. In the past I've done voluntary work in remote areas near Calcutta without issue, but have conned a male friend into coming along this year.

Federal Liberal MP Luke Simpkins has become the target of social media scorn after a high-level intervention to ensure ‘Islamic’ stickers were removed from the Leederville Train Station pedestrian overpass.

In a bizarre case of mistaken identity, the stickers were in fact spruiking a local nightclub – a fact lost on Mr Simpkins when he boasted on his Facebook page of having them painted over.

Probably because it would bring up uncomfortable hypocrisies about Japan's own history regarding sex-slavery (comfort women) and the widespread denial and outright rejection still prevalent there.
More to do with Japanese attitudes to their own women in general.

I'm sure its possible the perpetrators were insane, murderous buddhists, but I'm not going to bet on that.

As I said in the other thread, the only difference is that our guy couldn't get his hands on a automatic weapon.

But either way nothing to see here, nothing to discuss, everything will be fine and if you have any questions you are wrong and a racist to boot.

Frank discussions are not allowed in the PC world.

Is your next post apologism for British imperialism?

Being colonised by the British was akin to winning the lottery of history.

Being colonised by the French or Spanish not so much.

The list of the world's most successful modern countries is basically a list of former British colonies.

In early colonial times (and even possibly earlier) , children of indigenous peoples were often killed due to them being of mixed blood (i.e. from outside the tribe). Not an uncommon phenomenon in various cultures around the world. Neither too is the demonisation of those cultures based on such practices.

Wow lol, the nerve of those judgemental white people, judging a culture which routinely killed babies. How intolerant.

"A small Jewish ultra-Orthodox newspaper in Israel has found itself in the spotlight after digitally removing Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel from a photo of this week’s Paris march."
"Within the insular ultra-Orthodox community, pictures of women are rarely shown, due to modesty concerns. In Jerusalem, ultra-Orthodox vandals frequently deface buses and billboards with advertising deemed to be immodest."
“Including a picture of a woman into something so sacred, as far as we are concerned, it can desecrate the memory of the martyrs and not the other way around,” he said.

Only a small publication but I thought it was interesting as I didn't know that pictures of women are rarely shown. Another religious curiosity.
