TWO timekeepers have been suspended after an equipment malfunction led to more than two minutes of extra time being played during last Saturday night's game between the Brisbane Lions and West Coast.

The result of the round-one clash, won by the Lions by 32 points, will stand despite the AFL discovering that 39 seconds of extra time was played in the second quarter, 49 seconds was played in the third quarter and 73 seconds in the final quarter.

Interesting.

What about last night when Browny was lining up from the boundary and moving all the equipment, the time kept ticking, we lost about 40 seconds I reckon. Good for us though. :thumbsu::D

I just happened to watch the replay of the West Coast game and the TV clock (which I am pretty sure these days is linked to the actually one) was stuck on 15:35 for 1 minutes in the last quarter - I never noticed it at the time.

Not that it matters, but I wonder when the AFL took the scoring from in relation to the errors. Was it the three periods of time when the clock was actually stuck, or was it during the equivalent amount of time at the end of each of the quarters (i.e. the period the quarters went over time). It should have been the later, but I wonder if it wasn't the former.

Good point.

The Perth media are playing the victim:

A TIMEKEEPING error robbed West Coast of taking an eight-point lead into three-quarter time in last week's Round 1 loss against Brisbane. The third quarter was allowed to run for an extra 49 seconds, allowing Lion Luke Power to score a late goal to narrow the three-quarter time margin to just two points. The goal gave Brisbane significant momentum heading into its final term blitz.
