Nobody's said anything like that.

It doesn't have shit to do with pop concerts and iPhones and whatever you think people are claiming (though advanced global telecommunications and the internet certainly help). Civilians who make a decent living aren't going to support wars. Sure, they might support the periodic "Far away and won't actually affect me" wars (Iraq, Afghanistan, etc). But a world war means everyone's getting shit thrown and exploding at them.

Economic integration between countries has so far surpassed the levels prior to World War 2. It's in nobody's interests to go to war. You'll throw your own economy into the shitter as the rest of the world cuts cuts you off for being a dick. Which means your tax revenues go to the shitter too so you can't even fund your war let alone win it.

You ever noticed so many of the current wars are in Africa? It's because it's full of so many poor people with nothing to lose, mixed dangerously with nutter leaders.

The U.S. wouldn't even have to deploy reinforcements, although we would. That's as far as it would go. It would be a lovely excuse to drive all the way through to Pyongyang and overthrow their ridiculous communist utopia, but I think China would advise against that, and Obama would suck the Chinese dick and halt at the 39th.

No, he would take the wise position that culling millions of malnourished North Koreans including civilians who've been brainwashed for generations to defend the country if the time ever comes would make America and him look like giant dicks.

Supporting some kind of 'fifth column' makes far more sense.

P.S. North Korea hasn't been communist in any meaningful way for decades.

This. While GG may be proven right soon about North Korea actually starting a war, who knows really, but I doubt there will be a "world" war as 1 and 2 were. It might be a devastating war, it might be a bloody war or a nuclear war, but doubt it would progress to enough countries to be "world" war.

That's assuming that I have the definition of a world war.

I do doubt NK would start anything on the US, they wouldn't have the capabilities to hit the US enough, if at all, to do serious enough damage. However, they might start on South Korea, even though they would get flogged but if they are arrogant enough they will. US would bomb the shit out of NK I think, whereas NK would not be able to respond in a similar fashion.

Iran/Israel is different, that could lead to a more 'equal' war and perhaps a few more involvements. China won't risk themselves if NK start.

Georgia and Russia have a territorial dispute involving two unrecognised countries (by most of the world).
Georgia attacked one of those countries so Russia responded and whilst winning performed quite poorly.

The rest of the CIS nations had and have no intentions of picking a fight with Russia though the Baltics are in NATO and the Georgians wanted to be in NATO (note that here the USA has broken it's agreements and promises to Gorbachev).

Finland is another nearby country that does not want to join NATO.

Ukraine and Georgia had Western leaning Presidents but now they have more Moscow friendly Presidents, though not as friendly as Belarus and Kazahkstan.. The western half of Ukraine and the Crimea is ethnically Russian.
