Hi guys,

Not sure if we've had this up on the board, but thought it was a worthwhile reminder about the newstar racing club. Below I've copied and pasted some info from the website.

Bryan Martin does a great job and the day before and after a race you can expect numerous reports from the stable and Bryan himself. Newstar Lass is running at Geelong today and we've received an email from the stable and form analysts. You also get free entry whenever one of the horses are running and other owner privledges on the day of racing.

Its a great way to get involved in racing and all the money goes towards funding breastcare nurses!

So jump on board today!

NewStar Racing is Australia’s newest and most exciting racing club. For an outlay of only $95.00 per year, or $250.00 over three years, you become an exclusive member of NewStar Racing. Apart from experiencing the thrill of racing some of the best-bred thoroughbreds in Australia, your membership to

NewStar Racing also will give you access to a host of outstanding benefits from our corporate partners, valued at more than $200. These include: + SportsBet $50 betting voucher + Superb L’Oreal Gift pack + 12 month subscription to The Thoroughbred Magazine (first 1000 members) + Exclusive dining discounts at the Dimattina Group of restaurants in Melbourne and Broadbeach + Family ticket discounts for Eureka Sky Deck, Colonial Tram Car Restaurant, and other popular attractions + 20% off the exclusive Cosmo Couture Handbag range + Regular SportsBet giveaways + Exclusive member only competitions with thousands of dollars worth of prizes to be won You are an instant winner by joining the NewStar Racing Club.

We expect more corporate partners to join NewStar Racing throughout 2010, which will only increase the offers and many benefits available to members.

Importantly, the NewStar Racing Club takes great pride in its ability to communicate with our members. Communication is our area of expertise, and our members will have access to the following tools that will help make their experience of NewStar Racing an ultimate racing experience:

- A dedicated, members only website

- Daily stable updates

- Last word from the trainers

- Form analysis when our horses are racing

- Jockey and trainer interviews

NewStar Racing’s commitment to this concept is match by the quality of our racehorses and the talent of our trainers. Our initial racing team includes these outstanding young thoroughbreds:

- 3YO filly Newstar Lass (Royal Academy x Happy Heart) *A half-sister to the 2007 Group 1 VRC Crown Oaks winner Arapaho Miss.*

- Yearling filly Maiyanova (Commands x Bonanova) *A lovely near black filly from the Group 1 winner mare Bonanova, who is already the dam of the Stakes winners Bonaichi and Prima Nova. This filly is in-bred to the family of the great Octagonal.

- Yearling filly (Rock Of Gibraltar x Pier) *A half-sister to the Group 1 winning mare Pontal Lass.

- Yearling filly (More Than Ready x Vestry) *By the hot sire of Augusta Proud and Sebring from a city winning daughter of Marscay and the Stakes winner The Cloisters.

And our trainers are the best in Australia:

- Gai Waterhouse (Randwick, Sydney)

Youre better off buying a dog if you cant afford a horse.
Thanks for your input mate, I happen to own a couple of dogs and have a share in a couple of horses...have no idea why you would feel the need to post that when I'm quite obviously promoting a fantastic cause that is only $100 a year and supports the McGrath foundation....

Once again thanks for your insightful post

How much of the $95 goes to the McGrath Foundation?

Do you get into the mounting yard to chat to the jockey if the horse runs on a Saturday at a metropolitan track?

In my opinion you'd be better off donating $95 to the Foundation directly and saving up to buy a real 10% share of your own rather than subsidising BM's racing interests.

Well donating the $95 is a great idea...maybe you should do it. Thanks for the positive responses, newstar also hold special functions etc where people can get along and a % of that money goes to charity as well.

I doubt it is subsiding BM's racing interests when the trainers and owners are donating all their winnings or a % of winnings to charity and I think its a great way for some people to get involved in racing....

If you saved $95 a year for 50 years you might have enough $$$ to buy a 10% share in a racehorse...I dont know what sort of horse you have a share in but mine are pretty bloody expensive....

Cheers for supporting a great foundation

No problem

So is it all winnings or a % of winnings?

Cheers for supporting a great foundation
No problem.

Also from the website:

"The company intends to enter into a management services agreement with Bryan Martin Racing Services Pty Ltd [ACN 056 494 083] which will be responsible for the administration of the company together with the maintenance and updating aspects of the website.

The remuneration will be determined by the boards of NewStar Racing Club Limited and the McGrath Foundation"

Seems like not a lot of transparency around re the $$. You seem closely involved in the promotion of the syndicate. Can you clarify the financial structure?

Mate got nothing to do with it except I donate my cash to the foundation and I'm very happy with what I get particularly the packages that are offered during the spring and autumn carnival.

I have a great deal of respect for Glenn McGrath and his foundation and I am happy to support any cause that he is aligned with. I also have a great deal of respect for Bryan Martin and the work he has done to get the club up and running...

The % of winings is determined by the trainer, some trainers and owners have offered all winnings others have offered a % of the winnings, that goes directly to the club.

I am simply giving the club a plug as i see it as a worthy cause and I doubt that the McGrath foundation would jump into bed with a money laundering ex race caller who has dedicated his time to the foundation in order to make a quick buck.

Thanks again for your sceptisim and negativity towards a a club that is raising funds to fund the employment of breast care nurses across Australia.

I have no idea why you are being so petulant and defensive re this.

As with all charitable causes people have a right to know where exactly their hard earned is going. This is not unique to Newstar. Every charity should be subject to that level of scrutiny.

Personally for me vague comments like "some trainers and owners have offered all winnings others have offered a % of the winnings", "the remuneration will be determined by the boards of NewStar Racing Club Limited and the McGrath Foundation" don't cut it for me. The website certainly does not make any of this clear.

Fine you are promoting what you see as a worthwhile cause but until you or someone can spell out the money trail I'd be surpised if you can expect people to jump on board in droves.

Once again I cannot spell it out for you as I am just contributing my funds to what I see as worthy cause that I am supporting and finding it to be a of great value.

Once again I trust the judgement of the McGrath Foundation and the respected figures involved in this club to distribute funds accordingly.

And I thought the above was quite basic, trainers and owners are donating horses or a % of horses prize money depending on how generous they would like to be or how much the horse is purchased for it is made clear to members what % of ownership the club has and in its annual report will advise members of its contribution.

People like myself put faith in charities and trust them to fund their specific causes, I don't ask questions about a misely $100 donation...you however are obviously quite the opposite.

Thanks again for your participation in this thread, now go and try and raise some money for the charity case you're involved in, the North Melbourne Football Club.

EDIT: I would also like to add that the Club has just passed 1000 members in a short space of time with what I would imagine to be a very restricted marketing budget, given it is of course a charity

Pres offered you some valuable insight and you just got defensive.
Not a North Melbourne supporter are you? Of course I get defensive I try to give a charity a plug on a public forum and I get quizzed about where the money goes, its a charity FFS!
