He's sitting next to Fevola...FFS. I'm recording will watch later and fast forward thru the Fev bits.
Talk about brand damage.
They are best of mates , always have been. I reckon the only reason newy is on the show is because fev wanted him to. Meguire would lap up interviewing Fev.

No way know McGuire would be interested in interviewing Newy on his own. Can't blame him as far as n interviewee goes Newy would be high on the yawn scale. But hey lets watch it and see.

OK, it wasn't too bad...but Fev still is in fairyland. Talking about how he still would like to play and yet he's 20 stone. Just doesn't get it, never has.
Newy is just a solid individual, love him as a player and skipper. But he aint no off the cuff media performer.

Funny when Newy was asked if he would consider bringing Fev in to help him with his coaching should it become more serious...and Newy basically was like...No FN way....Fev seemed a bit set back by it. But guess best mates can be straight up like that....on national TV just came across a bit harsh. Fev is so out there though...thinking he get a job commentating LOL....maybe with Brian Taylor and Richo, would fit in with those two!

I am a Fev fan and hope a club gives him a crack, Gold Coast stand out like dogs balls in terms of needs and WB also. The bloke is a jet on the footy field.

My old man used to say that sometimes life is more about what you dont say than what you do say. Newy strikes me like that. I think he is an extremely polished media performer, just not forthcoming, which to me is a good thing. His handling of the Wallace affair and recent events with Connors etc has been first class. Says little off the field, says a bloody lot on it, just leads from the front. They can keep the sparkling media personalities, I'll take Newy. Liek someone tweeted during the show, "the most underrated skipper in the AFL"

Sat next to Slamming Sam on a Brissy to Melb flight one night. Christ he is a huge man, thank God we were up the front of the bus or it would have been bloody squeezy! Fabulous company and straight as a die, no punches pulled , you ask a question to get a straight answer. The kind of bloke you would love a session on the froth with!

Ideally in this day and age you want both. A skipper who is good with the media is gold for a club.

Look for cotch to do a lot of media when he gets the gig.

My roommate is a carlton supporter - he has the book and says its a good read. It's written in Fev's own words/style apparently so probably relatively simple, honest and blunt at times :D

I don't mind the Fev, he's an interesting character in a world of cliches and bland robots

I believe , to a large extent , that Fev was the product of his environment .

I actually , genuinely , like the bloke as well . Not a pretentious bone in his body .

But the Pratt-led era at Carlton wreeked of the same arrogance as the Elliott era . They just threw money at Fev without ever really trying to curb his stupid ways . Fact is , Pratt always said , and this is quite a famous and very true quote that while he was at Carlton so would Fevola be. I would hardly call that "putting a bloke on notice"

Pratt never said no to Fev . Discipline always played second fiddle to his profile and football ability .

So you get what we had had last year ... which is the way the wants it , well ... he gets it ... theres some men you just cant reach

I think I've heard that quote IDGAF, definitely seems to be true. Fev was treated like a king at the club (even my carlton roommate said that during the bleak, bad years Fev was almost the only reason to show up and watch). I guess being the star attraction and being chummy with Pratt wouldn't give him much fear of discipline issues if he stepped out of line. That all must have changed when the new prince Judd came across though.

He's a really likeable person but I think I remember even Alex Fevola saying he never really grew up - he was just born to play AFL and live the life.

Re the comment from tugga - I really hope we communicate strongly with Martin. I think at least we have taken the right step by making a strong statement that behaviour of that sort is and won't be tolerated at the club no matter how talented you are.

I pray he stays on the straight and narrow and matures, he's hugely important to our club's future :thumbsu:
