It's interesting (and probably frustrating in football circles) that the Rnd 16 fixture hasn't been finalised as yet.

It probably has to happen today - as surely teams need to plan recovery, training etc immediately after a game (and there is a game tonight).

Currently 2 games at Marvel and 2 at the G - one at GMHBA. The problem being the 6 sides that play this Sunday don't have matchups against each other the next week at all (meaning there are 6 teams who would be off a 5 day break if any one of them were scheduled for Friday night).

It pretty much leaves only 3 games for Thursday and/or Friday night games (Thursday would mean 5-day breaks again though) - GC v Richmond (surely not), Coll V STK, Geel V Ess.

From a viewer perspective, Geel V Ess probably gets the nod - but if that happens then there would be 1 game each day (Sat/Sun) at Marvel and the MCG - and still no ground allocated for our game against Sydney.

Basically I'm hoping for a Coll v STK Friday night game, which would likely lead to Melb v Giants Saturday and we get Syd at the G on Sunday.

Adelaide has been floated as an option for our game.

A short break for our game means that Buddy is less chance to play (they seem to be conserving him given his ongoing injury problems). I'd take that.

Doesn't look unlikely either, particularly when you look at the other games in Melb.

Lions have a pretty big discrepancy of rest against Crows, just as an aside. One team playing first game of the round, other playing last game of the round.

Adelaide could quite easily host a Saturday and Sunday match.

Sydney have a same-day FIFO game this weekend against Port in Adelaide with a special exemption.

I can't see why they would be overly happy doing that again when there are 2 (was going to say 3... but will say 2) perfectly good grounds in Victoria that give them some sort of travel advantage and avoid a huge amount of stuffing around getting to Adelaide.

Will that requirement remain in 10 days time when they've been based in Melbourne for almost two weeks?

I can understand the strict protocols SA are putting on travelling sides, but this time next week SA and WA might have opened up their borders to Vic once more, or at least be a little more flexible.

When was Vics last case of community transmission?

June 12 I think was the last date of a case from unknown source (at the time - it may well have been linked since).

It's actually quite time consuming (I was going to say difficult - but it is all on twitter) to work out - considering it is the most important statistic of all you would think/hope that the reporting authorities track and report that more than anything.

It's very injury dependent. They have had some minor injuries (Viney, Tomlinson) but mostly have had a charmed run.

I don't wish injuries on anyone, but a Gawn, Petracca, May, Lever injury would drop their rating significantly

I do not recall North Melbourne having a big injury list that led to their decline. Could be wrong but from memory, they just got figured out quickly. Melbourne will need to adjust that as I am tipping bombers against them at this stage.

I think if all goes to plan we might enter last round with top 6 positions all up for grabs as we have a monster of a final round.

Lions VS Eagles

Dogs Vs Port

Geelong VS Melbourne

They may fall off a cliff - but at this stage everything is pointing to Melbourne being top-4 at the end of the season.

I know you don't have a lot of respect for them (actually, the whole board doesn't really for obvious reasons), and no doubt they are untrustworthy, but what they have done so far in 2021 at least deserves notice.

Beaten Geelong, Lions, WB, Sydney, Richmond. They are yet to lose to a side in the 8.

Sure, their collingwood loss was poor - but it remains to be seen whether that is the start of a trend or an aberration.

Yup, I'm of the opinion that get him on the track for the next 8 weeks or whatever, make him play a game of WAFL and then get him in.

As long as he's patching things up during that time, training his ass off and doing the right things, he should be right to slot back in without it causing too much friction.
Is there any reason he cant play wafl this weekend?

We are due for some favourable fixturing with this covid19 stuff around. Last year we got royally screwed both ends of the season and we limped into the finals with injuries galore in the 2nd half of the season. This year we are getting players back at the right time so it would be glorious to get some benefit out of having no covid outbreak and providing the AFL with options to keep the season afloat.

I think the authorities do, it gets confused in the media. If they focused on community transmission, cases in hospital and cases in ICU, people wouldn't be as engaged in the story

With the AFL likely to adopt a weekly rolling fixture due to the current COVID uncertainty, this would be a great opportunity to have a "starting gun" Round 23. Simultaneous bouncedowns across the league. Works brilliantly in the EPL.

I'm afraid this team over the past few years has struggled to maintain intensity over extended blocs of games (or even four quarters) but that is what it has to to do until basically the end of the year. Cannot afford any lapses. Our early season poor form, injuries and inexplicable brain farts make this a case of us having to win all four.

Yeah we arent great at winning games that will really help as far as ladder position is concerned

Hahahaha this is perfect. We get to knock off our SCG and MDMA ground hoodoo in the same year, without facing the home team in either scenario 🙌

Yeah I don't mind even though the swine play geelong well......its a lot better than playing them at the SCG

I reckon we will win this game comfortably
