I have always been an advocate that the so-called vic is against WA had no basis and was mainly an emotionally charged and subjective attack on AFL supporting VIC. But now looking at this crap decision of changing the venue from SCG to crap hole Geelong I am starting to really question AFL intentions here. any other ground in the country would have been good but Geelong. that is a terrible outcome for us. why there??
As per the Carlton game, AFL have made it clear, that the displaced home team gets first choice of venue to the extent practicable.
Can't complain about this.

They gave Sydney the choice of venue, unsurprisingly they picked a ground we play terrible at.
Is GMR2D2-whatever, a similar size to SCG? I wonder what their other options were for that slot?
Marvel and MCG chocked with games. We play well at Adelaide and bad at MDMA stadium. Force us to fly further than SA. I would hope we'd pull the same petty shit if we had the chance.

Like when we were asked to play Richmond a week early and just said yeah, no worries?
If Sydney had a choice and they’ve chosen that ground because of us, then that reeks of fear. Personally think the Swans play the bigger ground at the MCG really well- suits their hard running style.

Yeah weak as shit if Sydney got the choice and chose Geelong. They aren't playing finals there so why worry about learning to play the ground. They deserve to get smashed for the weak decision
Sydney have a pretty good record playing in Geelong. Won 4 of the last 8 there apparently which is a rather good record against Geelong, a record no other team has come close to matching. I think if true and Sydney did pick the venue we picked it because we play pretty well there.
They picked a ground their opponent plays poorly at. Play on for mine.
Lose next week and Sydney are at risk of dropping out of finals.

This seems the obvious answer.
Swans are now based in Victoria and FIFO for an Adelaide game this weekend. They would not want to do that again if they can avoid it.
Marvel and MCG have 2 games each already in R16 (as you have mentioned above).
GMHBA available, and also very close to Avalon Airport (albeit pretty similar to MCG/Marvel from Melb Airport) - assuming the AFL have discussed requirements with government authorities and if there is a quarantine or FIFO requirement then GMHBA fits the bill quite well.
We were probably hurt by the existing fixture as much as anything. If one of the Marvel or MCG games wasn't there then I expect we would be at either of those venues - but it is what it is.
