Now that we have a well needed break hopefully we can reboot, refresh and look forward to a very interesting game against the lions at the dome.
Be good to have Hadley back playing against his former club and hopefully Walker a week or 2 later.

Following the lions game we have the dockers at home who played like dears dazed by headlights in the second half today. Didn't know what to do and panicked when they saw the dees coming home hard. Defintly a winnable game and one that will determine just how good we are.

Cats at the dome is obviously the biggest test in football. Will be a very good test for the guys and will let us see where we are at in comparison to the best of the best. Certainly will be heavy under dogs. At the moment, I feel blind in terms of seeing a win so we will have to wait till then to see how our previous 2 games went.

Port in Adelaide will be tough. Hitting very good form and look like they can be a heavy contendor now for the finals. Haven't had a good record in Aami but hopefully we can repeat the NAB cup result.

Last of all, the scum at the G. Wouldn't it be great to inflict another painfull loss on the pies and watch the tears torrent from Sir Eddie's eyes. No matter where we are on the ladder, we always seem to lift.

Overall i can see us having maybe 3 wins in the next 5 which i would be pretty happy with. Big month and a bit coming up if we want to be a player in the final series.

  • Cant see us beating brizzy if brown and black are back.
  • Freo we should since its in melbourne
  • Geelong....would love to lose by 20-30 cant see a win
  • We can definitely beat port. Banno should coincide with chads return and we can matchup with them. They wont stop fev but their rucks will be an issue.
  • Collingwood i expect to win :thumbsu:
interesting weeks ahead

Black wil be out 4-6weeks

Weird how we only just beat Collingwood a few weeks ago and we are playing them again so soon.

The AFL really need to look at the fixturing :thumbsd:

Black is showing early signs of OP

Black, yes definitely out for a while. There's a chance that the Lions will get Brown, Lappin, Roe, Drummond all back though... haven't had Roe or Drummond all year. Brown has been named in the state squad this week, the final 30. Lappin was apparently almost right to play against Geelong, but they didn't take the risk.

Thanks for the update :thumbsu:

  • Brizzy game will give us the truest indication of how good/crap we are
  • If we can't beat Freo we're still a bottom four side. We need to beat them as we haven't beaten them in donkeys years, and I really don't wanna see 'the wiz' snorter or Pavlovamaker humiliate us again, it's too humiliating.
  • Geelong, well we hafta stay competitve, interesting to see how Judd plays against them
  • Port...Well we smashed them last year, we can do it again, we hafta believe.
  • Pies, well if we lost the last four, Pies will lift, won't they?

I think the key to our next 5 is how we handle our next two (Brisbane/Freo). Both are VERY winnable games and if we can notch them as W's that will be our first time having 3 in a row since 2004, and our confidence will be the better for it.

If we win those two, the team will gel that bit more and the cohesiveness of the team will grow.. also our depth will improve with the returns or near returns of Walker, Thornton, Bannister and maybe Princess (Houla).

If we win the next two I think we can have 3 or 4 wins from the next 5!

Else anything less than 2 is going to be disappointing! Because we'd be in the same spot as round 12 last year.

ps: If we had snared at least a win over either Richmond, Essendon or Adelaide (prob should of had 2), we would be in about 5 spot now on the ladder with a percentage of around 100+!

I'll extend it a bit further:

Rd 8 Brisbane: Could win (esp. with Brown, Black and Lappin missing with injury)
Rd 9 Fremantle: Should win
Rd 10 Geelong: Not even nearly
Rd 11 Port: Could win (we do match up well against them)
Rd 12 Collingwood: Could win
Rd 13 Essendon: Should win
Rd 14 Richmond: Should win

Assuming we will all 3 'should wins', after 14 rounds:

1 out of 3 'could wins': 7 and 7
2 out of 3 'could wins': 8 and 6
3 out of 3 'could wins': 9 and 5

Would be very handy to have already notched up 7-8 wins by round 15 :thumbsu: (unlucky: Hurley, Natanui)

We do have a harder run home, but our young group is still getting to know each other and a new gameplan which should result in accelerated improvement in on-field performance (across the ground) as the season wears on.

This thread makes a nice change from the old "one week at a time" mantra

Brisbane is a 50/50 i reckon - just like you get dragged down a bit when you're playing crap teams (melbourne, wce) you also tend to lift a bit when you're playing better sides.

I'll probably break something in my living room if we can't beat freo, and it'll be a good indication of how Waitey's going when he lines up on Pav, who has been a bit like the proverbial 73 year old Austrian to us in recent times.

Geelong. No comment.

Port at AAMI - have won there in the past against the odds. NAB game wasn't much to go by as they had bigger names missing than we did. We're maybe 40/60 to win that one.

Pies - definitely beatable.

If it all goes pretty well we could be 6-6, but i'm guessing 5-7 is more likely...

IIRC they were missing their value meal deal (2 X Burgers + 2 X Cornes) as well as Ebert and Lade; and Tredrea for the second half. But let's not compare NAB Cup form with Home and Away form.

We played them twice last year, the first time we unexpectedly and comprehensively put them away at TD.

Later in the year when they had gotten into the sort of form that saw them make the grand final, we came up against them at AAMI. It was Ratten's 3rd game as caretaker coach and no one gave us a chance of winning (following the tanking accusations resulting from late interchanges in the final quarter against Collingwood in the previous week) and I (very naievely? overly idealistic?) put some money on the boys at over $8. They comprehensively outplayed us in the first half and after kicking the first goal of the 3rd quarter to extend their lead out beyond 40, Carlton managed to snatch back the lead and go into 3/4 time 3 points ahead. We did run out of steam in the fourth and lose that game, but of course there is a strong case to be made that in some way or other Carlton HAD to lose those final 6 games of 2007 under Ratten.

We only played them once in 2006, a 3 and a half win wooden spoon season for us. They won 84-118, which based on our 2006 form, was a competitive performance.

In 2005, another wooden spoon year for us (while they were reignign premiers) we managed a draw in round 3 and and a respectable 109-123 loss in round 19.

We just seem to match up well against Port no matter where each team sits on the ladder and I therefore consider any game against Port Adelaide as a 'could win'. :thumbsu:

I agree with you 100% BY. My 40/60 is your "could win" :thumbsu:

But I'm trying to negotiate you up to 50/50 ;)

I'll surrender 40/60 on the Brisbane game provided 2 of Brown, Black and Lappin play.

And that's my final offer! :p

Look, I'm a reasonable man. 49.75/50.25 :).

Although I'm more than happy to leave Brissy at 50/50 still coz even if 2 of those 3 guns do play Waitey might go alright against Brown, and i think we can deal with either or both of the other 2. It's not inconceivable that the bookies could have us as favourites going into that game.
