We weren't going to give him more help? You sure?
Fages and Walsh was reviewing the structure however it was focused towards building strength underneath the coach, not providing a DOC type of rile

however we also need to consider that there is a fair bit of heavy lifting up front when your new to a role and setting up a new footy program

Call it what you want. An extra coach would have been appointed to take on workload over and above the line coaches.
No amount of coaches or any other structure would have reduced Walsh's workload. He was a workaholic and would have always found another task to do, or spend more time on an existing task.

I thought you just wrote that pathetic rant bagging basically every Person on Bigfooty for having an opinion? Not sure why you are commenting
Maybe you should have another read of what I wrote.
Bagging people for carrying on like they know better than Roo and Fages is very different from bagging people for their own opinion.

I stand by what I said, couldn't care if you think it's a pathetic rant.

Maybe the responsibilities of head coach will change to more of an expanded DOC role with far more responsibility given to the other coaches, and maybe a true senior assistant will over see the other assistants, I'm not sure.

That is possibly more inline with how the Hawks do things going by the stories of how Clarkson works.

Whatever the answer is the fact Port and the Eagles before them had the quality of Walsh helping the head coach shows what we are lacking. Have a look at the experience of Ross Lyon's assistants and he would be one of the most capable coaches in the AFL.

Yep we have to remember we didn't just ask Walsh to step in and be head coach. He came in when we were in a state of unparalleled turmoil and neglect. We asked him not only to coach but to redesign our whole football program and lay the blueprint for sustained success in coming years. The new coach will benefit greatly from Walsh's groundwork.

Pyke is the man. Would be thrilled if he gets appointed.
Same, I would love for him to get the job.

It can't be a co-incidence that anytime Pyke is involved at a club that they are recognized as one of the most tactically astute in the league. In 05 and 06 our zoning was revolutionary (I originally credited this to Craig, but was told recently that it was Pyke's game plan) and since his return to the Eagles in 2014 their new defensive structure has been a game changer.

I definitely think that Pyke tactically is one of the smartest people in football, not sure about the rest of his coaching caliber though, but if we can keep Woosh to help him out then I would be over the moon.

Thought about this today. I believe worsfold has been virtually told for some reason he wont have the head coach position and hes exploring his options. Pyke is the man from what ive heard. It is puzzling to think though out of all the clubs why the **** you would go to essendon. $$$.. They are a rabble and wont challenge for a long time. Could end up like malthouse.
It's the Paul Roos role. Impressive figure head with no requirement for success.

Club said they'll announce it the week after the GF. Don't think they'll change that even if West Coast get knocked out.
Close but not quite correct. What Fagan actually said was that we would be announcing our new coach no later than the first week in October.

That doesn't rule out earlier if the team this coach is currently at loses this week. E.g West Coast lose we stitch up Don Pyke on paper and announce it the week before the GF

Let him coach til end of season, then announce. Couple of weeks makes little difference & better he gets finals experience.
Agreed, but the coach must be announced as soon prior to Free Agency/Trade Week as possible. Heading into trade week without a coach is a massive mistake, one because players will be hesitant to sign, two because the coach should be allowed a significant say in player movements, not necessarily the ultimate say, but some say.
