Richmond players already talking up their premiership chances

Friday night will be a good time to get Richmond
Richmond game plan really well. They chip the ball around well and are disciplined. Our disposal is so bad we will struggle against most sides. BUT if we can have one of those games where we have a good DE then Talia can shutdown Riewoldt and we should be able to at least break even at other spots. Can match their mids as long as Thommo doesn't handball blindly behind himself towards the opposition goal!!!!

If a coach can excel under pressure, when it counts most, I'm pretty sure he'll be able to our a successful program together.

Whereas I have no confidence in the reverse happening.

The ability to critically think when the pressure is on, is exactly the cornerstone of a good coach.
Disagree. We need a good program manager that gas experience in the best programs who can also get it done on game day. But to discount the importance of the massive amount of work involved is a mistake. Walsh stated he was working huge hours, even for him. Do you think that was just prep work for the cut and thrust of gameday.

I suppose what Walsh thought of Campo would go a long way to helping/hindering his chances of getting the head coaching job, regardless of how well or bad the team performs.

If Walsh wanted to replace him at the end of the year because he didn't think he was good enough, then you'd think Roo and Walsh wouldn't even consider him for the head job.
It's not just Roo and Fagan. They have to respect the view of the other person in the room, which is Noble. He's running the show, it's his dept and for as long as he's employed, the CEO and Footy Director will back his strategy. There is no way they won't be supporting his decisions, whether they agree or not. Campo being interim coach is as much about Noble as the other 2, possibly more.

Campo has to be out of the frame after the Sydney game. Haven't seen a failure to turn up like that since the players were trying to get Sando sacked and before that when they were trying to get Craig sacked. Complete lack of effort, even in the captain's 100th game. Not even trying. Game over, Campo.

Phil Walsh was looking forward to Darren Glass working with him. He must have seen something in him. Otherwise Ratten, Basset and Pyke stand out. I didn't know much about Mark Bickley outside the playing arena but he is the most articulate and professional person they have had on 5AA.

The biggest problems have been poor skills, lack of 2 way running from the midfield and gutless selection policy.

I can cop the first as long as there is some improvement shown during the year, but there should be no compromises on the the other 2. We need a hard nut who will sweep a broom though the place and not put up with lazy defending plus select on form rather than history, sentiment or non-statistics.

Carton players loved him, they just couldn't get the job done!

The DECLINE started when he left....

I hope we look into him
There were rumours at the time of issues between ratten and Players. How do we know that the players loved him? Having said that would need to be under serious consideration

I like Brett Montgomery. He's extremely highly thought of in the coaching fraternity too after winning the Assistant Coach of the Year award in 2014, despite the Dogs lowly finish. I love what the Dogs are building right now and I want a slice of it. If he is viewed as someone who can handle the reins in a senior role, I'm all for it.

assistants make no decisions. i cant see how you decide who is the best assistant other than taking the word of the senior coach. which is not very scientific

But future senior coaches grow on the assistant coach tree. I think that it is a bit simplistic to say that they make no decisions. I guess if we are looking at an assistant then we need to understand how and if they have been empowered in decision making

Also if that is the case then we can not be critical of line coaches . They certainly would be making decisions and suggestions on strategies within their areas. It is probably important to understand how much latitude they have been given. I agree that it will be an issue if they have been under a control freak
