Head is the same age and has played the same amount of tests, you would certainly think Marnus is more likely but Head’s a quasi live option as well.
Hughes
Pat Cummins.
Seriously though Phil Hughes.
N Lyon.
That would annoy some people.
Inb4 still struggling to average 40 in FC cricket in five years time, a la every Great White Hope of the current era.
Is it just me or is it easy to forget Siddle played 67 tests and took 220 wickets or so ?
covid hasn't had an impact on our test cricket.
he has only missed 2 v bangladesh in bangladesh - which we tend to cancel regardless of covid.
afghanistan in perth was cancelled because of covid - not sure why - afghani players were actually here in the BBL.
**ireland test in ireland cancelled in 2019 (CA altered schedule and played aust v aust A).
our cricket against the minnows always seem to be put on the back burner for one reason or another.
not many play 100 tests - i'm not convinced marnus will get there yet.
I'm not a fan of that. 5 should be England only for me.We cancelled a SA tour as well, so that’s 3 more tests lost.
I see in future we will be going to 5 test series v India, which is good.

5 vs England
4 vs India, South Africa, New Zealand
3 vs West Indies, Pakistan, Sri Lanka
2 vs Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, Ireland, Afghanistan
Play 7 tests every summer.
Year 1: England, one of the bottom 4
Year 2: India, Pakistan (for example)
Year 3: South Africa, Sri Lanka
Year 4: New Zealand, West Indies
Money, and an already crowded calendar. Why not 5 v India? They are the measuring stick now, basically replaced what the Windies used to be for us from the 70s till 90s.
7 home tests I’m with you though. They are what generate the public interest too, not sure why we are down to 5.
The rest you wrote I largely agree with. Though 3 tests v Windies and Sri Lanka could get a bit tedious (though on the flip side maybe they could be better for playing more matches here).
Money, and an already crowded calendar.
Hobart, Canberra, Gold Coast might struggle to get 1000 people a day for a Test against Zimbabwe or Ireland. And they aren't getting good matches against decent drawing teams. Nor are those games going to get TV audiences, a bit like Tests in most countries they cost more to host than increased media rights, sponsorships and tickets combined.
Its part of why WTC needs to include all 12 teams, so those sides get regular games.
Oh, I would much prefer 7 Tests a summer - cycling through Hobart, Gold Coast, Canberra, maybe Newcastle if they get a ground up to scratch - as part of a complete revamp of the home summer calendar. And, yeah, maybe Townsville, Cairns, Darwin winter matches.Just winter tests for them then, they aren’t getting better without playing. Or just use them as warm ups for a major summer v India/England.
Could have those matches in regional centres to generate some interest in attending.
If england can play 7 tests a summer, no reason why we can’t.
We cancelled a SA tour as well, so that’s 3 more tests lost.

Travis Head for sure*- he's only just turned 29 and is probably the next vice captain. Labuschagne very likely too.smith is now there.
who's next? could be anyone.
i'll have a bit each way on marnus, head and green if he can stay on the park.
80 - starc
64 - khawaja
61 - hazlewood
53 - cummins
- - - - - - - - - - - - - -
41 - labuschagne
40 - head
36 - wade
33 - marsh
23 - carey
23 - green
23 - burns
20 - handscomb
He will need more. We play 19 matches for every WTC cycle. He needs 5 years with no injuriesCummins probably only needs 4 more years.
7 and a half years later - slow starter ?I'll go really early.
Jake Doran.
7 and a half years later - slow starter ?
His age, or his batting average? Can't believe Jake doran is still only 26.
