Tom Stewart.

And it's crazy because I worked with his old man Daz many years ago when Tom was just in the Falcons.

Obviously, he didn't get drafted out of under 18's so I forgot about him.

His rise from local league to likely AFL Captain + AA defender is such a bonus for us and a great story.

Could see Holmes being captaincy material down the track... He comes from a bunch of leaders

Agree. He might be 29 but he started later than most so should still have another 4 seasons in him and he definitely displays all the right qualities.

Even if it's just 2 years. We can go from there

Same as Cameron Ling. Took over at 29. Captained 2 seasons, won a flag as captain and retired.

Adventurous, I like it.

I'd give it to Stewart for a year or two and then look at Atkins maybe after that

I disagree about it being adventurous

Watching the team this year, when the pressure has risen and we've looked at who'll step up under that pressure - more often than not it's been Atkins who's led the way

There's something about Atkins this year, especially in final quarters of tight games that he's been almost Selwood like in leading from the front and setting the tone for the team - he's just a bull who doesn't want to lose

He's also had previous captaincy experience - co-captain of our VFL team in 2017 but an injury impacted season. Then was sole captain in 2018 when he had a career best season, named captain of the VFL team of the year & won his second Geelong VFL b&f

He's a natural leader

Stewart's a good player, but I haven't really seen the same from him - yes he's our co-VC this year, but there's been times that whens the pressures gone up that he hasn't found it as easy to step up with it. I know he's most likely the next captain but not sure if he's really the best option

Bionic-Selwood is my next choice! Stewart seems to be the obvious choice, not just for his on-field efforts, but his off-field as well. Atkins has potential but I reckon needs another year or two under his belt first.

Anyone but Dangerfield

Unless we win the flag this year then it won’t bother me if Danger is captain since we already won a flag.
Why not?

He's already a leader, with his vice-captaincy and the AFLPA role.

He is a leader by example - his gut-running and efforts are second to none. He's also hugely courageous.

Frankly, he would already be captain at any other club bar perhaps Richmond.

I find this irrational dislike that some have of Dangerfield to be hugely perplexing.

I'd reward Hawkins if wants to go on.

Too old. One season captain makes no sense.

Danger similarly would do the job well as would duncan but at their ages i think its unlikely.

I would say the job is stewarts if he wants it for 3-4 years.

Anyway, the two current vice captains are Dangerfield and Stewart, so you would assume you would be picking from those two options.

Stewart is the obvious candidate because of his age (3 years younger than Danger) but honestly I'd be delighted with either.

I agree but at his age i dont see the point. I know ling took over for 2 years to bridge harley to selwood but danger probably only has 2 years left and id prefer a longer term option. Stewart as a late starter seems the obvious one.

Normally perhaps but age goes against him IMO.
Even then, Selwood has it until he retires and I reckon they retire together.
Hawkins will, I think, go on next year no issues - but Selwood is probably done, even if we don't win one.

Hawkins hits me as the sort of guy who's a leader, but not a captain, if that makes sense. He doesn't have Selwood's assertiveness or sense of mongrel, but you'd really look up to him if you were a young forward.
