Yes. He isnt the same player he was three years ago. Showing clear signs of aging this year. The end will come very quick for hawkins when it does come as it does for most tall fowards. I would be very surprised if next year isnt his last season.

Save for one of his own teammates he’s still the best all-round footballer among all key forwards in the competition. Even if he isn’t the same as he was three years ago he still has a long way to fall before he’s not worthy of a spot on a list

It's tough to predict when Hawk will gamg up the boots. One LTI would do it, but if he stays healthy.... his game is based around size and strength, and those are durable attributes. He would have a tough time in a worse team, but with JC and Stengle taking some of the def focus... he could go for longer than expected.

I’m of a similar thought.
Maybe Stewart and danger dual captains.

And expand the leadership group again.
Maybe just to 5.
Something like Holmes, Blicavs, atkins as VC.

Send a message to the youth that leadership will be recognised.
But we just don’t know who the leaders are

Just wanted to come here and plant a flag - I reckon Max Holmes will captain our club at some point. Such a shame he didn't get a Premiership medal, but he was a huge part of the reason that got us there. He's had a massive breakout season, and he has a good 6-7 years of improvement left in him. Fronting up for his teammates and being there for them to celebrate, whilst missing out on his chance, that takes huge character.

is on the verge but I think and based on the comments here that he still has that possibility of next year dropping off a cliff. He hasn't yet 100% cemented himself I don't think. Yes, had a fantastic year but there is a risk of dropping off completely.

I'm not sure how much longer Dangerfield will play on but I wouldn't be disappointed if he was given the opportunity.

I'm surprised by the lack of suggestions for Blicavs. From what I can see of him I think he would be a very good director of players onfield and the way he goes about it has been very good in his time. At 31 and being the athlete kind of guy he is, I could easily see him continue to play for a few more years yet unless there's something I am unaware of.

Watching the team this year, when the pressure has risen and we've looked at who'll step up under that pressure - more often than not it's been Atkins who's led the way

There's something about Atkins this year, especially in final quarters of tight games that he's been almost Selwood like in leading from the front and setting the tone for the team - he's just a bull who doesn't want to lose

He's also had previous captaincy experience - co-captain of our VFL team in 2017 but an injury impacted season. Then was sole captain in 2018 when he had a career best season, named captain of the VFL team of the year & won his second Geelong VFL b&f

He's a natural leader


Stewart's a good player, but I haven't really seen the same from him - yes he's our co-VC this year, but there's been times that whens the pressures gone up that he hasn't found it as easy to step up with it. I know he's most likely the next captain but not sure if he's really the best option

The only reservations I'd have with Atkins is that he's really only just established himself this season as a key member of the team, he was a battler before this season. When he was interviewed not too long ago, despite his breakout year and importance to the side, he said that he was still aware that he could be dropped at any second (in his eyes), so was still battling for his place. He'd need to relax and mature a bit mentally if he's still thinking that.

My brother and I were discussing this on Saturday night and I'm with you on Stewart. He's a top liner for sure but there have been a few games when things haven't gone his way and he completely drops his bundle.

If Joel was to pull the pin now, I'd give it to Danger or Hawk or the like for a couple of years and then Zach Guthrie. He has a great temperament, he has since his first game despite what a lot on here have thought about him and his worth at the club.
