Brad Ebert.

Trengrove is a great player, but Brad's compsure and likely long-term tenure at PAFC make him the better selection.

Trengove is the ONLY player on our team who you walk taller because of, has the perfect mixture of aggression and discipline, would not be afraid to tell every player eye to eye if they are out of line and still presents well to the media

Trengove is simply the no brainer. If the club opts for a safe media/sponsor friendly option like boak or ebert it will be a mistake - both are great players but they are not the leader that trengove is. You just have to watch any of his media appearances, especially his 5aa interview when he signed his new contract, to know this

Boak will bring it when september comes. (If we ever make it there)

Ya'll will see.

Bit like saying someone will make more double centuries than Bradman (12) and Lara (9) yet they can't make a hundred.

We might not see September action until 2015. He has to dominate March to August so that he can show us how good he is in September, not the other way round.

In 2009 I would have said Boak. In 2010 I would have said Hartlett. In 2011 I would have said Trengove. Since then, I can't be confident of any choice.

It highlights the situation at our club where, as far as I'm concerned, not one player stands out as captaincy material.

For the sake of the poll, I voted Trengove.

Went Brad Ebert. Impressed by his consistency in a struggling side. That is a really good sign. I don't think he has played a bad game and he seems to kick a couple goals a game.

Are we sure Russell and Craig took the right ones home from hospital?

But of course, I'm just looking in from the outside. Those on the inside will know who the real leaders are.

Troy Chaplin - C
Jackson Trengove - VC

I wouldn't be giving the captaincy to a 2nd year player. Chappy has been around for a while now, and seems to relish responsibility.

Our captain will be revealed this year -->
by the player who is still standing tall while everything crumbles around him

Pure 12 gets my vote
he's the kinda of player who can figuratively (and maybe literally) grip the guernsey collars of his fellow players and shout "come with me!"

Brabert to be his second in command.
Brabert strikes me as a Cassisi type.

Boak has finished the last two years off extremely well. <- my basis for saying he will play well in september.

Troy Chaplin is the last person any AFL club should give any leadership responsibility to. He would have to be in the top 3 of most over rated players at the club. He can play well, but doesnt do it long enough and is the first to come out and talk it up in the media whilst delivering nothing on the field.

If we include Chaplin in the leadership group or worse make him captain, We may as well fold as the acceptance of mediocracy that has plagued the club since Peter Rohde's arrival will have finally reached its peak and we will have completed the journey to AFL irrelevancy.

Trengove or Ebert for mine. Probably Ebert as he has done well to not succumb to our poor level of operation since arriving at alberton and he has been at a properly run club in west coast. Trengove although I think is a great leader and fantastic player, may find it harder as he has only experience our unaccountable, selfish and structurally inept style of play that may compromise what he thinks is acceptable and unacceptable.

Who is ready to be Ports next captain

Love this article and really like the way Jackson presents to the outside world

IMO he would make a great captain of our club - shouldn't have to be the "best player" for this

Just imagine if you were late for training - you'd get a nice smack in the chops :)

The beauty with Jackson is that he's a leader regardless of whether he's captain or not.

Boak - Captain
Trengove - Vice Captain.

That's a leadership combo to give you wet dreams.

Re: Rucci: Travis Boak may not renew contract at Port Adelaide

People have mentioned Brad Ebert, he was a state U18 Captain, shown excellent leadership this year also.

Re: Rucci: Travis Boak may not renew contract at Port Adelaide

So if its just a bonus, then don't compromise the clubs integrity by doing something as...Freo as offering captaincy so he pretty pretty please won't leave us.

We need a club that has a working hierarchy and that doesn't bend over for players every ****ing time.

So who do you think should be Captain? Matty Thomas? no wait, D-Rod? And don't say Trengrove..

Re: Rucci: Travis Boak may not renew contract at Port Adelaide

Boak may be made the captain, and sure, OK. But you don't ****ing promise him the captaincy with a new contract as if it were an upgraded parking space or a key to the executive bathroom

I agree completely. It would be interesting to read though, if not Boak who is your choice?

Re: Rucci: Travis Boak may not renew contract at Port Adelaide

Sadly, even though Cassisi was a stopgap until one of the young guys was an heir apparent, I still don't think we've got one thats worthy of the title.

So probably Trengove or Brabert (who I would take either of as VC in a shot)

We should give Boak these though, if it comes down to that

Boak & Co seem to all be another year away don't they.
